Dream - The government targets Indonesia to become a developed country by 2045. Minister of Coordinating Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto revealed that one of the factors that can make Indonesia a developed country is in terms of income or salary earned by workers in Indonesia.
According to the calculations of the Minister, workers in Indonesia must have a salary of Rp10 million per month in order for the per capita income level to also increase. This is in line with his calculations regarding Indonesia's per capita income target until 2045.
According to the HSBC Summit 2023 event, quoted from Merdeka.com, Thursday, October 12, 2023.
"In that opportunity, Minister Airlangga jokingly mentioned that the income of the people in the HSBC event room is above Rp10 million per month. Seeing that, he aspires for more Indonesian workers to have similar incomes in the future."
"paparnya." translates to "expose it."
Menko Airlangga targets that Indonesia's economic growth remains consistent at 5-5.5 percent per year. Indonesia's per capita income is currently US$4,700, then in 2024 Indonesia's per capita income could reach US$5,500, and increase to US$10,000 after 2030.
"Earlier at the neighboring store, the target was for the banking sector to create at least 1 million job opportunities. Now, I challenge HSBC, how many millions can be created? How much return of investment? And how many job opportunities can be generated? That's what matters," said Minister Airlangga.
Menko Airlangga sees that the main support for economic growth is mostly from the manufacturing industry. His mission is to increase the contribution amount, starting from the current 18 percent, and aims to reach 25 percent by 2030. "This means we have to find jobs, if the monthly income is US$10,000 or Rp150 million per year, it means our minimum income should be around Rp10 million per month. This is what we need to find, which industrial sector can pay a salary of Rp10 million," he explained.
"Thus, said Airlangga, the industrial sector in Indonesia needs to be boosted to look at something more valuable. 'We see industries that can elevate basic industries, such as textiles and footwear, those are products that have higher value. We must move away from industries that can be done by other countries like Bangladesh,' Airlangga concluded."
