Dream - PT Citilink Indonesia (Citilink) speaks up about a viral video showing a male passenger smoking inside the airplane. Head of Corporate Secretary Division Citilink, Haza Ibnu Rasyad confirmed the incident. He said that this incident occurred on Citilink flight QG 949 from Batam to Surabaya on Saturday, November 18, 2023.
Haza said in his statement in Jakarta, quoted from Merdeka.com, Monday, November 20, 2023.
Haza mentioned, the passenger in question has admitted his wrongdoing by smoking inside the aircraft lavatory. A strict action was taken against the passenger by handing him over to the aviation security officers on the ground for further action in accordance with the applicable regulations.
"ujar Haza." translates to "said Haza."
Citilink appreciates the air and ground personnel who have promptly handled the issue. During aircraft operations, the company always prioritizes the principles of safety and passenger comfort. "We always prioritize the aspects of safety, security, and flight comfort to ensure that all flights can run optimally," said Haza.
"Previously, a passenger video on Citilink aircraft went viral on platform X. The video captured a passenger being reprimanded by Citilink officers for smoking. 'There was a passenger suspected of smoking on a Batam to Surabaya flight... Maybe they're used to smoking on AKAS,' wrote the @BisKota account."
Passengers are prohibited from smoking on board the aircraft. This provision applies to all types of cigarettes: traditional cigarettes and electronic cigarettes (vapes). The penalty imposed is a maximum of Rp 2.5 billion or a maximum of 5 years imprisonment. This penalty is regulated in Article 412 paragraph 6 of the Aviation Law Number 1 Year 2009.
Every passenger is known to be prohibited from smoking inside the aircraft. Violations committed are at risk of causing serious fires. In an emergency, controlling and extinguishing fires inside the aircraft can be very difficult and potentially endanger the safety of all passengers and cabin crew.
Smoking on board the aircraft is a regulation set by the Indonesian and international regulators. In Indonesia, the prohibition of smoking on board the aircraft is regulated by the Ministry of Transportation in accordance with Article 419 of the Aviation Law. The prohibition of smoking on board the aircraft is also an international standard established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and has been adopted by many countries worldwide.
