Dream - Testing the ability to ride a motorcycle by circling the number eight turned out to be not only difficult for the public. The test for those who want to apply for a Driving License (SIM) also caused police officers to fail the test.
The unexpected incident occurred when six Police Sector Chiefs (Kapolsek) in Sragen Regency, Central Java, received a challenge from their superiors.
They were asked by Sragen Police Chief AKBP Arif Budiman to test a number of driving tests like participants in the SIM C practical exam. Some of the challenges given were tests of passing through figure-eight tracks and zigzagging.
To boost the morale of their subordinates, the Police Chief promised a cash prize worth Rp1 million if they could complete the challenge successfully.
The six Police Sector Chiefs are Kapolsek Tangen AKP Sartu, Kapolsek Gemolong AKP Supadi, Kapolsek Kedawung AKP Bambang Susilo, Kapolsek Miri AKP FAjar Ihsanudin, Kapolsek Tanon AKP Agus Jumadi, and Kapolsek Plupuh, AKP Sunarso.
As it turns out, the SIM test that is a nightmare for the public is also experienced by police leaders. The six Police Chiefs even failed to pass the obstacles.
In the challenges given, the Police Chiefs were asked to ride motorcycles in a zigzag pattern and form the number eight without touching the ground with their feet. Not only ordinary citizens, but the Police Chiefs also failed this challenge.
Out of the six challenged Police Chiefs, some hit cones and even fell. The Head of Traffic Unit of Sragen Police at that time, AKP Dwi Erna Rustanti, explained that the Police Chiefs did not use their own vehicles, so they were not familiar with the test area and were still awkward in riding the motorcycles.
Previously, the Indonesian National Police Chief, General Pol Listyo Sigit Prabowo, requested that the practical driving test for the SIM be changed because many of the challenges are not relevant to the actual situation on the road.
The National Police Chief criticized the zigzag and figure-eight practical tests in the SIM exam. He considered that these two practical tests made it difficult for applicants. In fact, General Sigit jokingly said that passing these practical tests could make someone a circus performer.
"I think if I test with these tests, only 20 people will pass. Is that true? Don't believe it? I will take you directly to Daan Mogot and test you there. Because if you pass that test, then you can definitely be a circus performer," as quoted from merdeka.com.
"So, these difficult things need to be improved to achieve the essence of what we want from a driver without having to do very difficult things," he added.
Dream - A mother named Lina apologizes for getting angry at the police while accompanying her child during the SIM test. In a viral video on social media, Lina is seen arguing with the police officer who tested her child.
“I am Lina, I am the parent of an applicant, it is true that I am in that video,” said Lina in a video uploaded by the Instagram account @polisi_indonesia.
Lina apologized for interfering in the SIM test procedure carried out by her child. She admitted that her intervention had caused a disturbance.
“Thus resulting in negative opinions about the SIM testing procedure,” she said.
However, Lina stated that the viral video on social media did not accurately represent the actual incident. “The video does not reflect the actual incident,” she added.
The commotion between Lina and the testing officer occurred at the Riau Driving Center Driving School.
In a video uploaded by the Tiktok account @birulangit153, Lina is seen expressing her protest because she considered the track in the SIM test to be too difficult.
"If you can't pass through there, it's impossible. Even for five years, I couldn't pass through it," the mother said to the SIM testing officer.
In response to this, the police officer then tried to explain that he was a testing officer authorized to assess the participants' driving skills.
"I am the tester, you go there, you don't need to argue, your child doesn't need to take the test again," said the police officer.
“We can prove how far your child can go, if they really can't do it, don't argue. We won't make it difficult if they are capable. There are participants who pass the test, you can see it there,” he added.
Finally, the officer allowed the mother's child to practice first before continuing with the SIM test.
Video apology from the angry mother to the officer then went viral and received various responses from netizens in the comments section.
“This mother turned on the right turn signal but turned left 🤣🤣🤣,” wrote the account @ameliaselly86.
“But it's also good that the viral video exists..., the traffic police must improve...also add automatic motorcycles and cars during the practical driving test for driver's licenses...to be more up to date with vehicle developments..., the rules must also be changed to follow the times..,” wrote the account @epon_04.
“The more stringent the driving test, the better, to reduce bad behavior from drivers who do not obey traffic rules.,” wrote the account @kang_morgen.
