Conflict with Coldplay Concert at GBK, U-17 World Cup Moved to JIS?

Dream - Indonesia is known to be the host of the U-17 World Cup 2023, but the schedule of the football event clashes with the concert of the British band, Coldplay, in Jakarta, both of which will take place at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (GBK).

Coldplay will hold a concert on November 15, 2023. Meanwhile, the U-17 World Cup 2023 will take place from November 10 to December 2, 2023.

Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo said that both events are equally good for Indonesia's international reputation. He admitted that he will meet with the Chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) who is also the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir, next week to find a solution to the problem. 

"Well, next week I will have a meeting with PSSI to find a solution on how to divide the time," he said as quoted from Merdeka.com, Monday, June 30, 2023.

Following that, there is a proposal regarding the U-17 World Cup being held at JIS. The government itself will renovate the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) using the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) of DKI Jakarta. 

"If (renovation) JIS is from DKI. We just need the technical assistant," said Dito.

The renovation of JIS includes repairing the East Ramp Access. Then, providing parking spaces for private vehicles.

"Because the train is not ready yet, the station (KRL JIS) is also not ready," he explained.

However, Dito has not revealed more detailed information about when the renovation of JIS will begin. He mentioned that next week, they will invite the Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta, Heru Budi Hartono, to directly observe the condition of JIS.

"I plan to visit JIS next week with Mr. Heru, so that we can ensure the location and future potential," he concluded.

President Jokowi previously stated that he will find a solution regarding the clash between the schedule of the U-17 World Cup and the concert of the band Coldplay in Indonesia. Jokowi emphasized that Indonesia has many stadiums that are ready to be used for football matches.

"Well, a solution will be found later. Our stadiums are not only GBK. There are others, there is JIS too," said Jokowi.

"There is Manahan (Solo), there is Jalak Harupat (Bandung). Many. There is Surabaya, there is Bung Tomo Stadium too. Our stadiums are many and ready," he continued.

On the other hand, he conveyed that Indonesia being appointed as the host of the U-17 World Cup is a trust given by FIFA. Jokowi also ordered the Chairman of the Indonesian Football Association, Erick Thohir, to prepare for the U-17 World Cup with precision.

"It is a trust given internationally, a trust given by FIFA to Indonesia. I have instructed the chairman of PSSI to prepare it properly," he explained.

Dream - FIFA has officially appointed Indonesia as the host of the U-17 World Cup 2023. This news is certainly welcomed with joy because previously Indonesia failed to become the host of the U-20 World Cup 2023.

"The Council appoints Indonesia as the host of the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2023," announced FIFA President Gianni Infantino on FIFA's official website, quoted on Saturday, June 24, 2023.

The U-17 World Cup 2023 itself is planned to take place from November 10 to December 2, 2023. However, FIFA itself has not provided certainty whether the U-17 World Cup 2023 will proceed according to the initial schedule.

If the U-17 World Cup 2023 will proceed according to the previous agreement, it will clash with the Coldplay concert in Jakarta on November 15, 2023.

The Coldplay concert in Indonesia was previously announced by the vocalist Chris Martin in a video on the Instagram account of the promoter, Third Eye Management.

This will be the first concert of the British band, which will take place at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (GBK), Jakarta. 

"Hello, how are you everybody watching in Indonesia?" said Chris Martin.

"We are very excited to announce our first concert in your beautiful country. We will be in Indonesia - in Jakarta on November 15," continued the vocalist.

The tickets for Coldplay have already sold out, and fans are just waiting for the arrival of the singer of Yellow in the homeland for the first time.
