Congress Appoints Wahyu Dhyatmika and Maryadi as Leaders of AMSI 2023-2027

Dream - CEO of Tempo Digital, Wahyu Dhyatmika, and Business and Digital Director of Katadata.co.id, Maryadi, have been officially elected as Chairman and Secretary General of the Indonesian Association of Online Media (AMSI) for the 2023-2027 period.

Both were elected by acclamation at the 3rd AMSI Congress held at Hotel El Royale, Bandung, on Thursday, August 24, 2023.

"Representing the voice of members from the DKI Jakarta region, we propose Bli Komang and Maryadi to be appointed by acclamation as Chairman and Secretary General of AMSI," said Eric Somba, Chairman of AMSI DKI Jakarta, in a written statement on Friday, August 25, 2023.

The Chairman of the election plenary session, Upi Asmaradhana, asked for the opinions of other participants, which were met with agreement.

"The 3rd AMSI Congress on August 24, 2023 at 21:46 WIB decided and appointed by consensus and acclamation, Mr. Wahyu Dhyatmika and Maryadi as Chairman and Secretary General of AMSI for the 2023-2027 period," said Upi Asmaradhana.

In his speech, Wahyu Dhyatmika stated that the previous leadership under Wens Manggut had laid a strong foundation for the organization.

Therefore, the task of the next board is to continue the vision and mission of AMSI in realizing a healthy ecosystem and quality online media journalism.

"There is still so much work to be done. Through this congress, we have aligned the frequencies and identified the issues. We have the same view on what needs to be improved, and this can only be achieved if we work together," said Wahyu.

AMSI currently has 456 members from 27 regions. The newly elected Secretary General of AMSI, Maryadi, said that member solidarity has been important since the formation of this organization.

"Differences of opinion will always exist, but they are always resolved. Most of these differences have been resolved in the revised AD/ART at this congress," he said.

Sapto Anggoro, a member of the Press Council who attended as an observer, welcomed the selection of this pair. He mentioned that Wahyu has an international network, while Maryadi has a local and business network.

"Komang with his international network and Maryadi with his local and business network will bring AMSI to greater success, beyond Indonesia. Congratulations for choosing qualified individuals for the advancement of Indonesian online media," he said.

Congress Recommendations

In addition to the election of new officials, this congress also issued important recommendations. First, the new AD/ART confirms the organization's DNA as an association of online media companies, not a professional organization.

Second, AMSI's affirmation regarding similar names of existing media. Press companies that can become members are not allowed to duplicate the names of existing media. This provision is stated in Article 2 of the Bylaws.

Third, the new AD/ART of AMSI grants the authority to negotiate on behalf of members in business agreements with platform companies. Fourth, agreeing on business guidelines and ethics as an effort to maintain the integrity of members.

Fifth, agreeing on the basic principles of using artificial intelligence (AI) for the production of journalistic works and the management of online media. This principle is to ensure the responsible use of AI in credible journalistic practices.
