Jokowi Sacrifices 'Arjuna' Weighing 950 Kg on Eid al-Adha

Dream - Muslims have started to prepare their sacrificial animals as Eid al-Adha approaches. As a Muslim, Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) also prepares for the annual sacrifice.

This year, Jokowi has chosen a Limousin cow from Palu City to be sacrificed in Central Sulawesi on June 29th for Eid al-Adha.

The cow's name is Arjuna and it is owned by a farmer in Bente Street, Palu City. Arjuna managed to surpass two other cows that were selected by the Central Sulawesi Plantation and Livestock Office (Disbunak) before being submitted to the State Secretariat.

The plump-bodied cow is considered to have good appearance, health, and weight as a requirement to be the president's sacrifice. Disbunak Sulteng requires the selected cow to weigh above 900 kilograms.

Arjuna, who is now 4 years old, weighs 950 kg and is estimated to increase until the day of slaughter.

The owner of the farm, Syamsudin, admits to being happy that the cow he cared for was chosen for the number one person in Indonesia. Special treatment is given to Arjuna to ensure his condition remains good.

"What is certain is that we clean the cage regularly. If Arjuna eats every day, he can consume up to 30 kilograms of grass feed," Syamsudin said, quoted from Liputan6.com on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.

Disbunak Sulteng, which was mandated by the Presidential Secretariat, also made several preparations ranging from animal selection to treatment.

The Head of Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health at Disbunak Sulteng, Dandy Alfita, revealed that samples of Arjuna's feces and blood had been examined in the laboratory to ensure they were free from Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).

"Everything is safe, including the vaccine. Arjuna's feed is also taken care of, we provide concentrate and vitamins," said Dandy.

It is planned that the sacrificial cow, which is a presidential community assistance, will be slaughtered at the Al-Istiqamah Mosque, Pakuli Village, Gumbasaa District, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi.
