Sandiaga Uno Reveals the Cause of Coldplay's One-Day Concert in Indonesia

Dream - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno finally found out the reason why the British band, Coldplay, could not hold a concert for more than one day in Indonesia. Meanwhile, in neighboring countries, Chris Martin and his band members can perform for six days. 

According to Sandiaga, Coldplay cannot perform for more than one day because the event organizer for Coldplay's concert is hindered by licensing issues.

The organizers complained about the uncertainty of licensing, which usually only comes out a few hours before the event.

"One of the considerations why Coldplay only chose one day here and more than one day in other countries is because of licensing factors, including the ease, timing, and cost of licensing," said Sandiaga quoted from Liputan6.com, Wednesday, August 2, 2023.

In response to this issue, the government will seek a solution by digitizing the one-stop licensing service for creative economy activities, such as art and sports events, reducing the licensing time to 14-21 days before the event.

"We target this digitization for national-class events to be issued 14 days before the event, and for international events, it will be issued around 21 days before the event," said Sandiaga.

One-Stop Licensing

President Joko Widodo has also instructed the establishment of an electronic-based one-stop licensing service for art and sports events.

The pilot project for licensing digitization will be tested in September and evaluated periodically, making it easier for organizers to obtain licenses.

Through this licensing digitization, licensing costs, security, and the amount of Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) generated can be transparently reported.

The government is optimistic about expanding from the current 3,000 events with an estimated economic value of IDR 197 trillion. If this digitization is implemented, the efficiency and economic added value of event organization can gain an additional IDR 17 trillion.
