This Man Suddenly Became Rich After Finding a Gold Nugget Worth Rp2.4 Billion

Dream - A man in Australia suddenly became rich after finding a gold nugget in Victoria worth AU$250,000 or around Rp2.4 billion. 

The gold was found in a 4.6 kg gold nugget using an amateur metal detector in the golden triangle area or the Victoria gold triangle between Bendigo, Ballarat, and St. Arnaud.

After finding it, the gold seeker brought his discovery to Darren Kamp's Lucky Strike Gold in Geelong, Australia.

Kamp estimates that the overall value of the gold nugget is AU$240,000 because the current price of gold is approaching the global record high. The amount of gold in the nugget reaches 83 ounces (2.3 kg).

This is Kamp's first experience seeing a large rock with a high-value gold content. Although he has been involved in gold prospecting for 43 years.

"Maybe in the 1850s, some were found, but in today's terms, it is very rare," said Kamp, as quoted from The Guardian, Thursday, April 6, 2023.

"I dreamt of finding something this big on my own. The biggest prospect I ever found was 24 ounces 12 years ago."

Interestingly, the metal detector used by the gold seeker is worth AU$1,200 (Rp12 million). Kamp said that the nugget was buried deeper than 12 inches (30 cm) in the ground where it was found. And only more expensive machines can detect or retrieve it.

Kamp bought the gold nugget from the man who found it and named the gold Lucky Strike. 

The Geological Survey of Victoria also estimates that there are as many as 75 million ounces of gold yet to be discovered in the central and northern Victoria goldfields, compared to the 80 million ounces that have been mined from the area since the gold rush era.
