Tok! PPKM Policy in Indonesia Officially Revoked

Dream - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) officially revoked the policy of Implementing Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) that has been implemented throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. With the revocation of PPKM, outdoor activities of the community are no longer restricted.

"Today, the government has decided to revoke PPKM as stated in the Minister of Home Affairs Instruction Number 50 and 51 of 2022," said Jokowi in a press conference on Friday, December 30, 2022.

Jokowi emphasized that the consideration to revoke the PPKM policy that has protected the community from exposure to Covid-19 was not done suddenly. The government, he added, has conducted studies for more than the past 10 months.

"We have studied for more than 10 months and based on the available data, today the government decided to revoke the PPKM," he said.

Based on data as of December 27, 2022, the weekly Covid-19 positivity rate is only 3.35 percent. This figure is below the standard set by the World Health Organization (WHO) of 5 percent.

Another consideration is the occupancy rate of Covid-19 referral hospitals (bed occupancy rate/BOR) which is at 4.79 percent. Meanwhile, deaths due to Covid-19 are recorded at only 2.39 percent.

"All of these are below the WHO standards," he added.

He stated that Indonesia is one of the countries that has successfully controlled the Covid-19 pandemic well. In addition, it can maintain its economic stability.

"The policy of balancing gas and brakes in handling health and the economy is the key to our success," he said.

However, Jokowi still asked all the people and components of the nation to remain cautious and vigilant against the spread of Covid-19.

"The use of masks in crowded places and enclosed spaces must continue. Awareness of vaccination must continue to be promoted because it will help improve immunity," he said.

Jokowi also asked the authorities and government agencies to continue to prepare health facilities in all regions. Covid-19 vaccination, including boosters, must also continue to be implemented.
