Unable to Get Permission to Marry His Pregnant Sister-in-Law, Husband in Lampung Poisons Wife to Death

Dream - A shrimp mining farmer in Bumi Dipasena Sejahtera Village, East Rawa Jitu District, Tulang Bawang, cruelly killed his wife, Siti Hasanah (29), with poison.

According to Sinar Lampung, the motive for the perpetrator to commit this crime was because he had a romantic relationship with his sister-in-law who is still a student. It is reported that the victim's sister demanded the perpetrator to take responsibility because she was one month pregnant.

This was revealed when the victim's sister became suspicious after seeing her sister's bruised legs and blood coming out of her mouth. When she tried to report it to the police, she was stopped by her family.

Still haunted by curiosity, Sulastri finally reported the strangeness of her sister's death to the police. After conducting an investigation, the Tulang Bawang Police found evidence that pointed to a murder case.

The Chief of Tulang Bawang Police, AKBP Jibrael Bata Awi, accompanied by the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit AKP Wido Dwi Arifiya Zein, explained the chronology of the murder committed by Berry Primanael.

“Initially, the victim's family received news on Friday, March 17, 2023, at around 03.00 AM that Siti Hasanah had passed away. At 04.00 AM, an ambulance arrived carrying the victim's body. The condition of the victim had been wrapped in a burial shroud,” said the Police Chief during the press conference on Friday, March 31, 2023.

At around 09.00 AM, the victim was bathed again. At that time, Sulastri saw bruises on the victim's legs and blood coming out of her mouth.

Then, the victim's body was buried on that day before Friday prayer. Feeling that there was something suspicious about her sister's death, Sulastri bravely reported the incident to the Tulang Bawang Police on Thursday, March 30, 2023.

“Finally, on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at around 02.00 PM, our suspect was arrested for alleged sexual assault on a minor. From the arrest, the officers conducted further investigation regarding the case of his wife's death, Siti Hasanah,” said the Police Chief.

The perpetrator's act of killing his own wife was revealed on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at around 10.30 PM at his house.

Previously, this 28-year-old man searched for poison through YouTube on Monday, March 6, 2023. Then he ordered a type of poison called putas online for Rp117,000 on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.

“Then on Sunday, March 12, 2023, the package of poison arrived at the JNE located in Kampung Gedung Karya Jitu, South Rawa Jitu District. The perpetrator told his cousin's child to pick up the package containing the poison,” he said.

On Thursday, March 16, 2023, at around 10.00 PM, the perpetrator opened the package containing the poison called putas. Then he put it into a glass of water and stirred it with a spoon.

“The perpetrator then woke up the victim who was sleeping. Then he forced the victim to drink the water mixed with the poison called putas. After that, the victim went to the pond to feed the shrimp,” explained the Police Chief.

About 30 minutes later, the perpetrator returned home and saw his wife having seizures. Apparently, he tried to save the victim by giving her water from a young coconut. 

Then, the victim was taken by the perpetrator's parents to the Sub-district Health Center. “When they arrived there, it turned out that the victim had already passed away,” said the Police Chief.

This graduate of Akpol 2001 explained that the motive for the perpetrator to kill his wife was due to the affair and resentment. The victim was considered an obstacle to marrying the victim's biological younger sister, identified as A (17), who is still a student.

Apparently, before marrying the victim, the perpetrator had a romantic relationship with the victim's biological younger sister and often engaged in a marital-like relationship.

“Until finally, on Thursday, February 23, 2023, the victim's biological younger sister informed the perpetrator that she was already one month pregnant and demanded accountability from the perpetrator,” he explained.

Currently, the perpetrator has been detained at the Tulang Bawang Police and is charged with multiple articles, namely Article 340 of the Criminal Code Sub Article 338 of the Criminal Code Further Sub Article 351 Paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code or Article 44 Paragraph 3 of Law Number 23 of 2004 concerning the Elimination of Domestic Violence.

The perpetrator is threatened with the death penalty, life imprisonment, or a maximum of 20 years in prison.
