Janeen Hayward, a professional clinical counselor and founder of Swellbeing in New York City, explained that whining is a normal thing for three and four-year-old children. At that toddler age, children have big desires but often cannot fulfill them on their own.

Ignoring a child's whining will only make them want to get what they want more. Hayward suggests helping the child understand that whining can make others feel uncomfortable. Don't forget to also make sure if the whining is because your little one is feeling tired or hungry.

Try to find out the reasons why children whine. Is it because they feel the need to control the situation or just venting their frustration. One way that can be applied is by giving simple tasks to children while at the supermarket. You can also explain the reasons why their requests cannot be immediately fulfilled.
