Dream - Entering the age of 6 months, babies can start to be given food because breast milk (ASI) is no longer sufficient to meet their nutritional needs. In the first month, it is recommended to give them soft and smooth textured food.
That is because babies cannot chew yet and their teeth have not grown. Baby porridge at the beginning of complementary feeding (MPASI) tends to be very smooth, and as the child grows older, it is important to increase the texture of their food.
"In the transition period, babies often reject textures. According to Dr. Frieda Handayani, a pediatric specialist, each child's readiness to learn to eat solid food may vary. The rejection can be a sign that the little one is not yet ready to be given thicker and denser food or to move to a different texture."
"Remember that each child's readiness varies depending on their developmental level. Can he lift his head? Our baby should be able to sit in a high chair, feeding seat, or baby chair with good head control," said Dr. Frieda.
Doctor Frieda explains that one of the signs that a baby is ready to eat solid food is when they see us eating and try to reach for our food. It seems like they want to be given that food.
"If we spoon-feed cereal, but they push it out of their mouth and onto their chin, they may not have the ability to move it to the back of their mouth to swallow it. That's normal," said Dr. Frieda.
It is very important to pay attention to the little one's response when introducing new or more solid textured foods. Also, do not rush too quickly to increase the texture of the food.
Do it gradually so that the child can adapt and learn to chew slowly. According to Dr. Frieda, the process of introducing solid textured food can take one to two weeks. So, be patient, mom. Source: IG @frieda.handayani
