Mother's Confession When Her Child Living in Japan "Culture Shock" Takes Exams in Indonesia

Mother's Confession When Her Child Living in Japan

Dream - The ability of children to adapt to a new environment is certainly not easy. Especially if the child changes schools and the curriculum is very different from before. Moreover, if they move to another country, the adaptation that the child has to make is definitely much greater.

Sometimes this can cause culture shock, like the experience of an Indonesian child who has been living in Japan for a long time. A mother, the owner of the Instagram account @ameliamuriza_, shared her son's heartfelt expression who has just moved to Indonesia and has to take exams at school.

The son turned out to be confused during the exam because there were several questions in the material that he did not know. "Mom, why are they testing something that I don't know yet," asked the child.

Amelia also tried to explain because there is a difference in the learning system. This has even made her son somewhat shocked by the learning model in the homeland.

According to him, during school in Japan, there is no preparation for focused studying for exams, but test scores can reach a maximum of 100. It turns out that in Japan, school children are always given a lot of homework, forcing them to read books and understand the material every day.

"In Japan, there is no day without homework, even during holidays, there must be homework about what is being studied at school. Every day, bring your stack of homework papers. The advantage is that when the school holds a test, your brain already remembers and can do it. Because you practice every day," Amelia expressed her experience when answering her son's question."

"In Indonesia, Many Schools are Not Given Homework"

Amelia revealed that when her child went to school in Indonesia, there was no homework at all. Only when the tasks were unfinished at school and had to be continued at home, and sometimes her son didn't even finish it.

He also explained to his son that the abundance of homework in Japan 'forces' children to read the material. So that during exams, the tested material is easier to memorize and understand.

"While in Indonesia, they only rely on studying at school and studying before exams. That is what makes his son consider that there are materials that are not taught but appear in exams. The post sparked a lot of responses from netizens. Some are in favor and some are against it. 'Because if children are given homework, they won't be able to play later,' commented @riiiindu_"

"The problem in Indonesia is that students are not trained to take responsibility for their homework, so their parents are the ones who are burdened," responded @ha_ayasa. "The school learning system in Japan is the same as in Greek elementary schools...every day the children are given homework sheets to review the lessons of that day," said @yusnitaelzantina.
