'Marriage in Islam is Simple, What is Complicated and Expensive is the Culture', This is the Story of Zaskia Mecca's Simple Wedding That Only Cost Rp7.5 Million

Dream – Many people hold extravagant weddings with high costs, but there are also many who choose a simple way with very low expenses. Listen to the story of Zaskia Adya Mecca, who chose to get married simply with Hanung Bramantyo.

"It was really simple. We only got married at the mosque, there was no reception. We only spent Rp7.5 million," she said in a video uploaded on the alanabi ID YouTube channel.

According to Zaskia Mecca, the Prophet Muhammad taught to announce a marriage. So, she added, what is important is to announce a marriage to many people, not to hold a lavish reception. That's why Zaskia really held a very simple wedding, with only an officiator, witnesses, and representatives of the parents.

"Turns out getting married in Islam is simple. Only a marriage that follows the sharia is simple, a marriage that involves culture is what is complicated and expensive, and I proved that yesterday," said Zaskia.

In that wedding on September 14, 2009, Zaskia even had time to shoot in the morning. He just came home at five in the afternoon and dressed up for his wedding.

“We're getting married at eight in the evening, if I'm not mistaken, after Isya' prayer,” he added.

After the wedding, Zaskia returned to the shooting location. She had to catch up with the filming of the soap opera that was airing that month.

"After that, I went back to shooting until 10 o'clock because it was the Ramadan broadcast of Para Pencari Tuhan, which had to air every day and we didn't have any stock episodes," she added.

Because the wedding was so simple and sudden, Zaskia Mecca was hit with rumors that she was already pregnant. She admitted that she never thought such gossip would arise because of her simple wedding.

"There was no thought that journalists would gather and say, 'You're pregnant already.' I never thought about it," said Zaskia.

She admitted that the wedding was simple and sudden because of her parents' blessing. Initially, she said, her mother did not allow her to marry Hanung.

But then, her mother suddenly gave her blessing to her relationship with Hanung. "So we rushed it," she said.

According to Zaskia, one of the reasons her mother did not give her blessing was because Hanung was a widower with one child. Moreover, as the second child out of seven siblings, she had to follow her older sister who had not yet married.

"So I skipped over my sister Tasya. I was already going to marry a widower, why not find someone who is single, and all that," said Zaskia.

She only received her mother's blessing after two years of being in a relationship with Hanung. The blessing was given suddenly.

"There was one day when my mom suddenly said, 'You want to get married? Well, you can get married if you want, just get married.' I don't know why it happened suddenly," she said.

Because she suddenly got the green light, Zaskia immediately asked Hanung to get married the next day. Without thinking twice, Hanung, who was in Bangkok, Thailand, at the time, agreed and immediately returned to Jakarta.

Finally, Zaskia and Hanung got married in a simple ceremony at a mosque. She didn't even have a wedding reception because she went back to work immediately after getting married.

Finally, Zaskia Mecca's High School Dream Comes True: 'Happy and Enthusiastic'

Dream - Zaskia Adya Mecca has finally fulfilled one of her long-held desires since high school.

Her long-standing wish, as the wife of director Hanung Bramantyo, was to play softball at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK).

"I really wanted to play since high school and my dream was to play at GBK... and now it's finally happening. I'm really happy and I feel like now is the right time to join in," Zaskia Mecca wrote on her Instagram account on Friday, July 22, 2022.

According to Zaskia, her schedule has become busier now that her children have returned to school. Since Bhai Kaba, her third child, decided to change schools, she now has to pick up and drop off her children more frequently.

"Ever since Kaba decided to change schools, my schedule for picking up and dropping off my children has become packed. It's like a series of different schedules for four children, starting from 6 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon every day. It's really busy!" she said.

Despite the increasing schedule, Zaskia really enjoys her busy life as a mother of five children.

"I could ask for help by hiring a driver, but I really enjoy being busy with them and having quality time with each of them during our journeys," she said.

Now that she has the right time to pursue her hobby, this 34-year-old woman is very happy. Plus, she gets to meet new friends.

"Playing softball really brings me joy in the midst of a busy week. Meeting new friends outside my usual circle while doing sports is also fun," she said.

Zaskia even mentioned that playing softball makes her happy and enthusiastic.

"We really need activities that we are passionate about... to keep our spirits up, happy, and enthusiastic," she said.
