Manitou is a lake formed in 1827 through an agreement between the native American Potawatomi tribe and the United States government. They built a new dam, which caused an area with five small lakes to be flooded and merged into Lake Manitou. During the construction of the new dam, some workers reported seeing unusual creatures swimming in the lake waters. Known as Meshekenabek or the Manitou Monster, this snake-like creature, measuring about 60 feet long, is gray in color with a yellowish pattern and a head resembling that of a horse or a cow.

In 1898, Oscar Fulk, a landowner farmer, claimed to have seen a giant turtle in a lake near Churubusco. In 1955, Naomi Johnson was swimming on the banks of the Ohio River when suddenly her foot was struck by something furry and pulled underwater several times. Fortunately, a friend nearby helped her out of the water, but her leg was scratched from the knee down and there was a strange greenish stain. According to her story, a US Air Force colonel visited Johnson after the strange incident. After sharing her story with the colonel, Johnson was instructed not to speak of it again.

In 1891, some ice harvesters were going about their daily activities when suddenly they witnessed a terrifying apparition floating above them. This incident was recorded in the Crawfordsville Daily Journal on September 5, 1891. The creature was said to be 18 feet long and 18 feet wide, pure white in color, and had an indistinct shape. Furthermore, the creature appeared to be writhing as if in agony. Two additional witnesses tracked the entity and reported that it was actually a herd of several hundred killer deer.

In the 1970s, residents of Indiana reported the presence of a new mysterious creature in their state: the Pike County Monster. This creature stands at least 10 feet tall, with eyes that shine with evil and a body covered in long hair. They say that before seeing the monster, one would first smell its odor. The Pike County Monster is said to emit a strong foul smell and a terrifying scream. On November 1, 1974, two different groups of people reported to the police about the presence of strange creatures roaming in Mill Race Park. People from all over the country flocked to Mill Race Park to search for the creature. The number was so large that local authorities had to close and monitor the park at night to prevent monster hunting activities.
