Dream - According to the Shafi'i school of thought, the reward for sacrificing on the day of Eid al-Adha will be given to the one who sacrifices and their family. So, every family member involved in the sacrifice will receive a share of that reward. Therefore, someone who sacrifices must have a good understanding of the rules and regulations. By doing so, their sacrifice can be accepted by Allah SWT. In addition, friends of Dream should also be aware of the prohibitions during the sacrifice. By doing so, these prohibitions can be avoided in order to make their sacrifice perfect.
Well, here are some important prohibitions to be known by Muslims when performing the sacrifice as summarized by Dream through various sources.
There are several prohibitions that Muslims must know when they are performing the sacrifice. What are those prohibitions?
In performing the sacrifice, Islam sets requirements regarding the permissible animals to be used as sacrificial animals. In this regard, the person performing the sacrifice is not allowed to choose animals that are blind and clearly blind, sick and clearly sick, lame and clearly lame, or extremely thin to the point of having no bone marrow. As explained in the saying of the Prophet Muhammad, "There are four defects that are not allowed in sacrificial animals: (1) blindness in one eye and it is clearly blind, (2) sickness and it is clearly sick, (3) lameness and it is clearly lame, (4) extreme thinness to the point of having no bone marrow." (Authenticated by Tirmidhi and Ibn Hibban)
"For those who are performing the sacrifice, it is prohibited to cut nails and hair. This prohibition applies from the beginning of the month of Dzulhijjah until the time of the sacrificial animal is slaughtered. In addition to the prohibition on cutting nails and hair, it is also forbidden to shave completely, partially or just pluck hair from the mustache, armpits, and pubic area."
Rasulullah saw bersabda:
The translated text in English while preserving the HTML tags is: "Animals that have been slaughtered as sacrificial offerings, their meat is prohibited from being sold again. If this is done, their sacrificial worship will not be accepted by Allah SWT. As the Prophet Muhammad said: 'Whoever sells the skin of their sacrificial animal, their sacrifice will not be accepted.' (HR. Hakim and Baihaqi) Not only the meat, but also other parts of the animal's body are prohibited from being sold, such as the head, legs, and so on."
This is also supported by the word of Allah SWT in Surah Al-Hajj verse 28: "So eat of them (the sacrificial animals) and feed the distressed and needy."
Other prohibitions that should not be done while sacrificing are giving the sacrificial meat as payment to the slaughterer. This practice is considered the same as selling the sacrificial meat. As explained in the book Kifayatul-Ahyar by Abu Bakar bin Muhammad al-Husaini:
"And know that the function of sacrificial animals is to be utilized. Therefore, it is not allowed to sell them, it is also not allowed to sell their skins, and it is not permissible to use the proceeds from the sale as payment for the butcher, even though it is a voluntary sacrifice (not a vow sacrifice)...""
The last prohibition when sacrificing is to recite the Prophet's blessings when slaughtering. This is because there is no evidence explaining that the Prophet recited blessings when slaughtering sacrificial animals. Therefore, when slaughtering, it is recommended to recite the basmalah and takbir. The existence of this prohibition is feared that people will imagine the Prophet when he is being slaughtered. With that, the intention to sacrifice animals for the sake of Allah SWT is disturbed.
