6 Conditions for a Wife to Refuse Her Husband's Orders in Islam, Anytime?

6 Conditions for a Wife to Refuse Her Husband's Orders in Islam, Anytime?

"Husbands who lead their wives towards wrongdoing, then the wife is allowed to refuse such command."

Dream - Islam teaches that every wife should obey her husband. Actually, it should be noted first, whether the husband leads his wife to the teachings of Allah SWT? A husband who is obedient to Allah SWT will definitely also lead his wife to be obedient to Allah SWT. Well, with that being said, the wife is obliged to obey her husband. Unfortunately, there are also husbands who instead lead their wives to wrongdoing. In fact, they dare to command their wives to do such bad things.

In this condition, the wife is allowed to refuse her husband's command. Here are some conditions that allow the wife to refuse her husband as summarized by Dream from various sources.

6 Conditions in which a Wife is Allowed to Refuse her Husband's Orders in Islam, Anytime?

1. Husband Orders to Commit Shirk

The husband who instructs his wife to commit shirk, then the wife is obliged to reject it. A husband is the head of the household. It is only right that he guides his family members towards goodness according to the teachings of Allah SWT, instead of directing them to deviate from His teachings. Shirk itself is an action that is detested by Allah SWT. Therefore, it must be avoided in order to avoid sin.

2. Ordering Wife to End Relationship Without Reason

Islam teaches us to always maintain good relations with others. Even with people we haven't seen for a long time, we should reconnect with them. This is especially important in the relationship between husband and wife. If a husband orders his wife to sever ties without any clear reason, the wife is allowed to refuse. This is because such an act is detested by Allah SWT.

Because this is an act that is hated by Allah SWT. Allah SWT said in Surah Ar-Ra'd verse 25: "Those who break the promise to Allah after it has been confirmed and sever what Allah has commanded to be joined and cause corruption on earth, they are the ones who receive curses and for them is a bad dwelling place (Hell),"

3. Telling the Wife to Reveal Her Private Parts in Public Places

"In Islam, it is taught that every Muslim should cover their aurat properly. For women, their aurat covers their whole body, except for the face and palms. A wife is indeed required to obey her husband. However, if the husband instructs the wife to uncover her aurat in public, then the wife is allowed to refuse. This command is considered as a prohibition by Allah SWT."

4. Commanding Wife to Engage in Intimacy during Menstruation

"Having sexual intercourse between husband and wife is an act that can bring rewards. Because from here, righteous offspring will be present. There are times when a wife is not allowed to engage in sexual intercourse. One of them is when the wife is menstruating. Now, if a husband commands his wife to engage in sexual intercourse while she is menstruating, then the wife is allowed to refuse. As explained in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 222:"

"They ask you about menstruation. Say: "Menstruation is a dirty thing". Therefore, you should keep away from women during menstruation; and do not approach them until they are clean. When they have purified themselves, then have intercourse with them in the manner prescribed by Allah. Indeed, Allah loves those who repent and loves those who purify themselves."

5. Telling the Wife to Work Full-time for the Family

The responsibility of a husband is to provide for his family. If the husband and wife have agreed that the wife should work, and the wife agrees happily, then it is allowed. However, it is a different story if the husband is healthy and capable of working well, but insists that his wife should fully work and replace his role of providing for the family without any clear reason.

Therefore, the wife has the right to refuse her husband. Because in the afterlife, the husband will be held accountable for his duties as the head of the household, including providing for the family. As explained in a hadith: "Allah will ask every leader about what he led, whether he paid attention to it or neglected it," (HR. Ibn Hibban 10: 344. Sheikh Shu'aib Al Arnauth said that the chain of this hadith is authentic).

6. Ordering Wife to Give Property by Force

In Islamic teachings, if a wife works, then her money is her own property. Therefore, the husband has no right to that money. If there is a husband who forcefully asks for his wife's wealth, then the wife has the right to refuse it. Because this is an unjust act and not in accordance with Islamic law. The wealth owned by the wife may be used by the husband. As long as there is permission or agreement and satisfaction from the wife.
