Presidential candidate (capres) Anies Baswedan once mentioned this issue when he appeared on Deddy Corbuzier's Youtube podcast in 2019. The former Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud) highlighted the phenomenon of people nowadays speaking by mixing Indonesian and English. One of the root problems, according to Anies, is the lack of vocabulary in Indonesian language.

"What we need to encourage is that the Indonesian language should be enriched, so that the vocabulary is more extensive, because it is indeed a young language. English, on the other hand, you know how many words it has? One million. We have more than 100 (thousand). So we need to add to that," said Anies. When he was still serving as a minister from 2014-2016, he created a program so that people could propose new vocabulary. The way to do it was that the Ministry of Education and Culture created a special page to register vocabulary absorbed from regional languages."
