The Manggarai Water Tower is a building in Manggarai, South Jakarta, which was built around 1918.

Dream - The ancient tower stands tall in the midst of the densely populated settlement of Manggarai, South Jakarta. It is indeed three centuries old, but still appears sturdy amidst the surrounding new buildings.

"Most Striking"

The height of this tower is 35 meters. It has a square shape, measuring 8X8 meters. Therefore, it stands out the most in the middle of the village.

This tower is made of bricks. Many parts are 'naked' without cement coating.

The Manggarai Water Tower was built in 1918 by the Dutch East Indies government.

"Other Functions"

"Selai mendistribusikan air, bangunan dua lantai itu juga berfungsi untuk mencuci kereta api." Translation: "Besides distributing water, the two-story building also serves to wash trains."

"Still Strong"

The door is still sturdy and thick, making it quite heavy when it is going to be opened.

The Manggarai Water Tower is made of red bricks with window designs that are rarely seen in today's era. Although it is only made of red bricks without cement, the tower still stands firmly.

Interestingly, even though it is over three hundred years old, this building still functions. When it is full, the water inside the tower will flow from the top and be collected by residents for daily needs.
