Dream - Fasting in the month of Ramadan should be done by every Muslim to the fullest extent possible. Because in this month, Allah SWT grants extraordinary privileges. One of them is multiplied rewards for every deed performed. This obligatory fasting is not only about abstaining from food and drink, but also about restraining desires and avoiding sinful acts that are prohibited by Allah SWT.
Nah, there are several groups of people who, although they fast, their fasting is in vain. This was conveyed by Buya Yahya in one of his lectures.
The following is a group of people whose fasting is in vain according to Buya Yahya, which is important to be known by every Muslim.
"What is the Purpose of Fasting in Islam?"
"Fasting is one of the religious practices carried out by Muslims during the month of Ramadan."
The main purpose of fasting according to Islam is to get closer to Allah SWT, increase faith and piety, and seek His pleasure and forgiveness. The Quran, as the main source of teachings in Islam, has explained the importance of observing fasting. In Surah Al-Baqarah verse 183, it is mentioned: "O you who have believed, fasting has been prescribed upon you as it was prescribed upon those before you, so that you may become righteous."
Bertakwa is one of the main goals of fasting. By restraining oneself from eating and drinking and resisting the temptation of sin during the month of Ramadan, Muslims are expected to improve their spiritual lives, control their desires, and increase their fear of Allah. Additionally, fasting also teaches Muslims to be grateful for the blessings bestowed upon them by Allah SWT. By experiencing hunger and thirst during fasting, Muslims are taught to appreciate and be thankful for the sustenance that has been given to them.
Not only does fasting have spiritual benefits, but it also has health benefits. Fasting helps cleanse the body from toxins and harmful chemicals. Additionally, fasting can boost the immune system, aid in weight loss, and improve sleep quality and concentration. Therefore, the purpose of fasting in Islam is to draw closer to Allah, increase piety, experience gratitude, and obtain health benefits.
"Fasting is not only a religious obligation, but also a means to improve oneself as a whole."
"Special Features of Fasting Compared to Other Worship"
The holy month of Ramadan is a special month for Muslims all over the world. There are several important characteristics of the holy month of Ramadan that every Muslim should know.
First, the month of Ramadan is a month that is obligated by Allah to the Muslim community to observe fasting. Fasting in the month of Ramadan brings great benefits to its practitioners. Fasting in this month does not only mean refraining from eating and drinking physically, but also teaches patience, self-control, and forgiveness. Through fasting, Muslims are taught to refrain from sinful acts and increase their faith.
Next, the holy month of Ramadan is also a month to get closer to Allah. In this month, Muslims are encouraged to increase their prayers, read the Quran, and worship with more devotion. Spiritually, Ramadan provides an opportunity for introspection, self-improvement, and strengthening the relationship with Allah. Additionally, the holy month of Ramadan is also known as the month of generosity. Muslims are encouraged to share their blessings with others, especially those in need.
There is a habit of giving alms, performing acts of charity, and caring for orphans in this month. This strengthens social care within the Muslim community and enhances tolerance and solidarity. Overall, the holy month of Ramadan has its own special qualities as a month of fasting that brings physical, spiritual, and social benefits. These special qualities make Ramadan a very valuable time for Muslims to increase their faith, introspect, and provide benefits to others.
"The Category of People whose Fasting is in Vain"
According to Buya Yahya, there are five groups of people whose fasting is in vain. Who are they?
1. People who Fast but Still Lie
The first group is people who fast, but still like to lie. They are witnesses of falsehood and never leave a job that contains lies. In Islam itself, lying is a behavior that is hated by Allah SWT. Even outside of Ramadan, lying is still prohibited by Allah SWT.
2. People who Fast but Like to Backbite
The second group is people who fast but enjoy backbiting or gossiping. Ghibah itself is talking about the shortcomings or faults of others. In this act of backbiting, there is usually ill intention. For example, tarnishing someone's reputation or gaining satisfaction from someone else's mistakes. The negative impact is that through backbiting, conflicts can arise between individuals or groups.
3. People who are Always Instigating
The third group is people who always sow discord. For example, they share something on social media that eventually leads to hostility. In Islam, sowing discord is called namimah. This act has also been explained by Allah SWT in Surah Al-Hujurat verse 6.
"O believers, if an evildoer comes to you with a news, verify it carefully, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and then regret what you have done." (Quran, Al-Hujurat: 6)
4. People who Fast but Do not Guard their Eyes
The fourth group is people who fast but do not guard their eyes. It means guarding the eyes from things that are forbidden by Allah SWT. In this case, not only in the physical world, but also in the virtual world. For example, looking at someone's private parts in the virtual world. Maybe no one sees it, but Allah SWT sees it. Therefore, one should feel ashamed before Allah SWT. Buya Yahya said that the opposite gender's private parts are easier to find in the virtual world than in the real world.
5. People who Fast but do not Control their Desires
The fifth group is people who fast but do not restrain their desires. Whether it is desire for food, husband and wife, or visual desires such as watching inappropriate videos. In his lecture, Buya Yahya said that people who fall into these groups only change their eating schedule from day to night. Meanwhile, the worship they do is in vain.
