Dream - As is known, the teachings of Islam encompass all aspects of life. This is why Islam is called the most perfect religion, because it regulates every detail of life. This is important because the laws in Islam are closely related to the possible impacts that may arise afterwards. One thing that every Muslim needs to understand is about 'azl' when husband and wife have sexual intercourse.
In Islam, the term 'azl' is defined as the act of a husband withdrawing his genitals during intercourse when approaching ejaculation and ejaculating outside the womb. In the Book of Al Mawsu'ah Al Fiqhiyyah, the definition of 'azl towards a partner is when approaching the release of semen (ejaculation), the genitals are intentionally withdrawn from the vagina so that the sperm is spilled outside.
"'Azl can be done by a husband for various purposes. Such as to prevent fertilization and childbirth, so that the number of children is limited, because of concern for his weak wife who has given birth too often, to not burden the wife too much, or for other intentions. This ability is based on several evidence that shows the permissibility of 'azl absolutely. It is not bound by any conditions and is general in nature."

There are scholars who state that the ruling on azl is permissible absolutely (without condition), whether permitted by the wife or not. However, if someone abstains from it, then that is better. This is the preferred opinion or the stronger opinion according to the Shafi'i school of thought. This is due to the obligation to fulfill the needs of the wife, which can be fulfilled by using the azl method even without ejaculation. Nevertheless, it is recommended to seek permission from the wife before using this method.
From Jabir bin 'Abdillah, he said: "We used to practice 'azl during the time of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and the Quran was being revealed at that time." (Narrated by Bukhari no. 5208 and Muslim no. 1440). In another narration, it is mentioned: "We used to practice 'azl during the time of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and it reached his ears, but he did not prohibit it." (Narrated by Muslim no. 1440).
According to the Book of Al Mawsu'ah Al Fiqhiyyah, there is a second opinion stating that the ruling on azl is permissible with conditions or necessity. However, if it is done without necessity, then it is considered makruh (disliked). This is the opinion of Umar, Ali, Ibn Umar, Ibn Mas'ud, and Imam Malik. This opinion becomes the second opinion among the Shafi'i scholars. This opinion is also the opinion of the Hanafi scholars. However, this opinion allows azl without the permission of the wife if the times are corrupted and can have a negative impact on the future child.
"Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam forbade performing 'azl with a free woman except with her permission." (HR. Ibn Majah no. 1928, Al Baihaqi in Al Kubro 7: 231. Sheikh Al Albani stated that this hadith is weak) Ibn 'Abbas radhiyallahu 'anhu said, "It is forbidden to perform 'azl with a free woman except with her permission" (HR. Al Baihaqi in Al Kubro 7: 231. Ibn Hajar in At Talkhish 3: 188 weakens one of its narrators).
What is clear, there is no prohibition to perform 'azl during marital relations. As narrated by Jabir RA: "We used to perform 'azl while the Quran was still being revealed (during the time of the Prophet Muhammad)." (Sahih Hadith narrated by Abu Dawud 1/320; Nasa'i 2/71, Ibn Hibban No. 1229, Hakim 2/162, Baihaqi 781, Abu Nu'aim in Al-hilyah 3/61-62). Because if the act was forbidden, the Prophet Muhammad would have prohibited it and not allowed his companions to do it.
