"Do not let your fasting be in vain, Here are 8 actions that can invalidate Ramadan fasting, Muslims must know!"

Dream - Fasting is a form of training to be patient and restrain oneself from eating, drinking, doing wrong, and engaging in sexual activities. In carrying out the fast, it is important to remain focused on Allah SWT. Because this is a mandatory worship with extraordinary virtues from Allah SWT. Therefore, Dream's friends should be careful when performing the fast. Avoid things that have the potential to invalidate your fast, especially daily activities.

Because when the fasting of Dream's friend is canceled, then you have to make up or replace the fasting outside the month of Ramadan.

Do not let your fasting be in vain, here are 8 actions that can invalidate Ramadan fasting, Muslims must know!

Well, here are the daily actions that can invalidate fasting as summarized by Dream through various sources.

"Everyday Actions that Can Invalidate Fasting"

"Fasting during this one-month Ramadan period should be done to the maximum. Avoid things that can invalidate your fasting, Dream friends. Here are some actions that invalidate Ramadan fasting:"

Perbuatan Sehari-hari yang Bisa Membatalkan Puasa

1. Entry of Something into the Throat

When fasting, a person is prohibited from eating and drinking. Essentially, anything that enters the throat and reaches the stomach can invalidate the fast. If a person unintentionally eats and drinks while fasting, it is considered forgetfulness. Therefore, it is still permissible to continue fasting and it is not obligatory to make up for the missed fast. This is explained in a hadith.

"Whoever breaks their fast during the month of Ramadan unintentionally, they are not obligated to make up for it or pay expiation." (Narrated by Tirmidhi with a chain of narration that is authentic according to Ibn Hajar) However, if eating and drinking is done intentionally, then the fast is invalidated and must be made up for. Apart from eating and drinking, other things that enter the throat intentionally, such as water during ablution, can also invalidate the fast. Furthermore, if saliva has already been expelled from the mouth, it should not be drawn back in and swallowed again as it also invalidates the fast.

2. Intentional Vomiting

Vomiting that is intentional can also invalidate the fast of Ramadan. However, if the vomiting is unintentional, then it does not invalidate the fast. This can happen due to illness or motion sickness. Such vomiting is indeed unintentional. The Prophet Muhammad said: "Whoever is compelled to vomit (vomits naturally without intention and vomits on their own), then they are not obligated to make up for their fast."

However, whoever intentionally vomits, he must make up for his fast. (HR. Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi)

3. Ejaculation

When semen is accidentally released, it does not invalidate the fast. For example, if someone sleeps during the day in Ramadan and then has a wet dream, it is beyond human control. They can immediately perform a full-body ritual bath (junub) to remove major impurity from their body. However, if semen is intentionally released, then the fast is invalidated. The same applies to semen released through sexual intercourse, kissing, and embracing the opposite sex with involvement of sexual desire. In such cases, the fast is also invalidated.

4. Something that Enters Through the Anus and Vagina

Something that enters through the anus and vagina can invalidate fasting. For example, when cleaning oneself after using the toilet and the finger presses too hard and enters the anus, then it invalidates the fasting. It is different if someone has hemorrhoids. When hemorrhoids come out and are inserted back, it does not invalidate the fasting. Because actually, hemorrhoids themselves are inside.

5. Menstruation and Postpartum

"For women who are experiencing menstruation and postpartum bleeding, they are not obligated to fast. However, they are required to make up for the missed fasting days outside of Ramadan according to the number of days they have missed. In addition to making up for the missed fasts, they can also pay fidyah."

6. Crazy

It should be remembered that one of the conditions for fasting is to be of sound mind. So, if someone who was previously healthy suddenly becomes insane, then their fasting becomes invalid. On the other hand, if someone is insane but has hope for recovery, then they are obligated to make up for the missed fasting. However, if their insanity persists until the end of their life, then they are exempt from the obligation.

7. Intercourse

Jimak or having sexual intercourse is prohibited while fasting. If done during fasting, the fast is considered invalid. There are even punishments for those who engage in sexual intercourse while fasting. The punishments for those who engage in sexual intercourse while fasting are as follows: Committing a sin, Must observe imsak (refrain from activities that invalidate the fast until Maghrib), Receiving takzir (punishment from the Sharia judge), Must make up for the missed fast, Husband must pay kaffarah, one of the following in sequence:

"Freeing a believing slave, fasting for two consecutive months, feeding 60 poor people every day with one mud (675 grams)."

8. Apostasy

Apostasy is leaving the Islamic religion. This cancels the fasting because one of the requirements of fasting is being a Muslim. If someone remains an apostate, even if they are fasting and at that time their religion is still Islam, then their fasting is still invalidated. If someone remains an apostate and does not return to Islam, then Islamic law no longer applies to them and there is no obligation to make up for the missed fasting.
