Discovery of Letter from Soldiers Writing Messages with Clay 2600 Years Ago

In 600 BC in the region of Israel, a soldier named Hananyahu sent a letter to his friend Elyashiv.
"He recorded his message on a piece of pottery that was discovered by archaeologists in 1965. Over the years, biblical scholars and researchers have examined the front side of the pottery fragment that was inscribed with ink. This pottery fragment is often called an ostracon, which can be used to record receipts, lists, or even letters."
The researchers then successfully deciphered the words in Hebrew language that contained a message about money and Yahweh sent by Hananyahu to his friend, Elyashiv.
However, recently researchers have realized that there is an additional message on the back of the ceramic fragment. For over 50 years, archaeologists have assumed that the back side of the ceramic was empty because the ink was not visible.
Currently, thanks to multispectral scanning technology, researchers have managed to uncover three lines of hidden sentences in the message on the ancient pottery. The message reads: "If there is still wine, send it." According to a report from The New York Times, archaeologists have published their findings in the journal PLoS One.
"Unveiling the contents of the letter from Hananyahu after 2,600 years gave me goosebumps," said Shira Faigenbaum-Golovin, a doctoral student at Tel Aviv University who is also the author of the study.
"I was very surprised to see it."
The translated text while preserving HTML tags: "The back side of the ostracon has more than 17 words and 50 characters. Hananyahu asked to send wine, offering any desired reward to Elyashiv, and there is a request for unknown goods."
Researchers use scanning technology to uncover four additional sentences on the front fragment of the pottery. These sentences also discuss the matter of silver and oil between the two individuals. The ostracon was found at the location that was previously the Fortress of Arad, a military post in the desert that was part of the Kingdom of Judah. In 586 BC, the kingdom was destroyed by the Babylonian forces led by King Nebuchadnezzar.
In a post on X about this finding, an internet user commented, "Until today, Hananyahu is still waiting for the delivery of the wine."
