One notable achievement in the field of underwater archaeology is the discovery and restoration of the Swedish warship known as "Vasa". This luxurious ship, which was built in 1627, became the most powerful warship in the world at that time.
However, unfortunately, this ship has a significant construction defect, causing it to sink only within a short distance of about 1,300 meters after its launch. After being submerged for centuries at the bottom of the Stockholm harbor, the Vasa ship was finally restored by maritime archaeologists in the 1960s.
The restoration process is carried out by lifting the ship in relatively intact condition, while also discovering the remains of 15 individuals and thousands of other artifacts.
One of the impressive achievements of underwater archaeology is the discovery of a shipwreck from the Late Bronze Age that sank around Cape Gelidonya, Turkey, around 1200 BC. Despite being submerged at a depth of 27 meters, this did not stop the efforts of archaeologists to lift it in 1960. Inside the ship, artifacts from Mycenaean Greece were found, including merchant scales, pottery, copper and tin ingots, as well as copper fragments.
Similar success was experienced around Uluburun, Turkey. In 1982, a local sponge diver accidentally discovered a large ancient ship. The recovery process took place from 1984 to 1994.
Finally, after years of effort, the 14th century BC shipwreck previously intended for the Mycenaean royal port has been successfully excavated by underwater archaeologists. In the ship, impressive treasures were discovered, such as large quantities of copper and tin plates, Canaanite containers, glass plates, olive oil containers, African blackwood, oil lamps, cosmetics, jewelry, gold, silver, and other valuable items.
With the advancement of technology and science, significant developments have occurred in the field of maritime archaeology. The Mary Rose serves as evidence of various approaches that can now be utilized by underwater archaeologists. This Tudor-era warship sank during battle in 1545, and its wreckage remained at the bottom of the Solent Strait near the Isle of Wight for centuries. It was only in 1982 that the shattered hull, along with thousands of preserved artifacts and the remains of numerous sailors, was finally recovered.
The translation of the given 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any html tags is as follows: "The wreckage of the ship was severely damaged, making the recovery process from the fragmented remains a daunting task and is now considered one of the most complex and expensive underwater archaeological projects in history."
