"Dream - Preacher Gus Miftah assesses that the use of speakers or amplifiers in mosques is still necessary for the sake of Ramadan's propagation. The use of speakers is needed to restore the atmosphere of fasting month as it was in the past. 'The vibrancy of Ramadan must be brought back to how it felt during our parents' childhood, so that the Ramadan ambiance is felt,' said a man named Miftah Maulana Habiburrahman, as quoted from Liputan6.com, Tuesday, March 12, 2024."
"Although hoping for no tightening, he also reminded the mosque administrators to still pay attention to the environment in the use of loudspeakers. One of them is not increasing the speaker volume at night."
"Yes, but there should still be limits on the use of speakers, let's say until 10 PM using external speakers," he said. Gus Miftah emphasized that he never mentioned the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) regarding the circular on the use of loudspeakers. According to him, the restriction on the use of loudspeakers is also reminded by other religious leaders. "I emphasize that Gus Miftah never mentioned the circular from the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia regarding loudspeakers. Because the suggestion regarding the restriction on speakers is not only from the Minister of Religious Affairs," he said."
According to him, the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) did not fully understand the content of his sermon. He expressed his surprise at being called "asbun" or "asal bunyi" (making noise without substance) by the Ministry of Religious Affairs after questioning the regulations on the use of loudspeakers in the mosque environment. "The Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia should not be so sensitive, they should just see whether Abah's (his familiar nickname) speech was directed at them or not, which it was not. Why get sensitive and call Abah 'asbun'?" said Gus Miftah.

"Previously, the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) responded to Gus Miftah's sermon in Bangsri, Sukodono, Sidoarjo, East Java, which criticized the prohibition of using speakers during Quran recitation (tadarus) in the month of Ramadan."
Gus Miftah compares the use of speakers with dangdut music, which he said is not prohibited even until 1 a.m. The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) stated that Gus Miftah fails to understand because he compares such matter. "Gus Miftah appears confused and fails to understand the circular letter regarding guidelines for the use of loudspeakers in mosques and musallas. Because of his confusion and lack of understanding, what he conveyed is also careless and inaccurate," said Kemenag spokesperson Anna Hasbie in a press release, quoted on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.
Anna asked Gus Miftah to first understand the purpose of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) issuing a circular on guidelines for the use of loudspeakers in mosques and prayer rooms. "As a preacher, it's better for Gus Miftah to understand the circular first, so that he doesn't sound ignorant and provocative. If he still doesn't understand, he can ask for a proper explanation. Moreover, comparing it to dangdut music is clearly inappropriate and a misunderstanding," she said.
According to Anna, the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) issued Circular Letter Number SE. 05 of 2022 regarding Guidelines for the Use of Sound Amplifiers in Mosques and Musallas on February 18, 2022.
This circular aims to create mutual peace, order, and comfort in the dissemination of religious teachings among a diverse society, including different religions, beliefs, backgrounds, and others. "This circular does not prohibit the use of amplifiers. Please recite the Quran using an amplifier for the dissemination. For mutual comfort, the amplifier used should only use internal speakers," he said.
