"It is also referred to as a 'lost' asteroid, because it was only visible 1.5 days before disappearing from NASA's view. The 314-meter-sized asteroid became too faint and has not been seen since."

The condition allows astronomers to calculate its orbit and search for potential collisions with Earth. NASA's Near Earth Object Study Center has identified 89 potential impacts, including one impact that will occur on October 5, 2024.

"Although it sounds somewhat concerning, there is actually nothing to be afraid of. One potential impact point was predicted to occur in 2019, but it did not happen. With the sophistication of technology, astronomers have been able to predict the orbits of known objects for about 100 years into the future."
