Dream - Have Dream's friends ever promised to do something when they successfully achieve their goals? Yes, in Islam, this is called a vow. For example, if someone successfully obtains a bachelor's degree with honors, and then they promise to fast for three days. So, this example is a form of vow. Vow itself means an oath in language. In terms of terminology, a vow is an oath carried out for a good purpose. For Dream's friends who want to fast a vow, it is important to know the prayer of intention for fasting a vow. By doing so, the fast can be carried out smoothly and valid in the eyes of Allah SWT.

If someone is unable to fulfill their vow of fasting, then there are consequences that they must face, which is to pay a kafarah (expiation). The amount of kafarah that must be paid has been explained by Allah SWT in Surah Al-Maidah verse 89. "Let it not be that Allah holds you accountable for what you have vowed but you do not fulfill it. And fulfill your vow, for indeed, the vow is a responsibility upon you." The kafarah for breaking a fast is to feed ten poor people, giving each one a full meal equivalent to what you would normally eat, or to clothe them, or to free a slave. But whoever cannot find means - then a fast of three days [is required]. That is the expiation for oaths when you have sworn. But guard your oaths. Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses that you may be grateful.

Translation: "Meaning: "Allah does not punish you for unintentional oaths, but He punishes you for intentional oaths. The expiation for breaking an oath is to feed ten poor people with the same food you give to your family, or to clothe them, or to free a slave. But whoever cannot afford it, then he must fast for three days. That is the expiation for your oaths when you have sworn. And be mindful of your oaths. Thus Allah makes clear to you His verses that you may be grateful." (Surah Al-Maidah: 89)"
