Dream - A couple from Dorset, a region in England, discovered an ancient treasure from the 17th century while renovating their kitchen. A pile of coins known as the "Poorton Coin Hoard" was found beneath the floor by Betty and Robert Fooks.
Quoting The Guardian, these coins are estimated to be sold for £35,000 or around Rp703 million in an auction. Robert Fooks, an agricultural engineer, discovered the treasure when removing the concrete floor of the kitchen to increase the height of their house ceiling. He found a broken glass ceramic bowl containing over 1,000 coins that are 400 years old. The couple immediately reported their findings to the authorities and the coins were sent to the British Museum to be cleaned and identified.
"Betty Fooks tells the story of the renovation process of the 400-year-old house, which involved digging the floor to make the ceiling higher. One night, while they were working, Robert found the pile of coins and stored them in a bucket."
They realized that if it weren't for the renovation, those coins might have remained hidden under the floor. "One night, I was with the kids and my husband was digging with an axe when he called to say they had found something. He put all those coins into a bucket. If we hadn't lowered the floor, they would still be hidden there. I think the person intended to take them but never got the chance," revealed Betty Fooks.
"Julian Smith, a specialist from Duke auction, explained that the house is located in a small village in west Dorset and is a 17th-century longhouse. Extensive renovations were carried out after the house was purchased by the current owner in 2019. The sale of these coins is planned to take place on April 23."
"ungkap Julian Smith." in English is "revealed Julian Smith."
"The coins have been stored at the British Museum for identification and cleaning, and they feel that the coins were stored on one occasion," he continued. Report: Khaira Amalia"
