Benarkah Nuzulul Quran Terjadi pada 17 Ramadan? Begini Penjelasan Para Ulama

"Is it true that the Revelation of the Quran occurred on the 17th of Ramadan? Here's the Explanation from the Scholars."

Surat Al-Qadr explains that the Quran was revealed on the night of Lailatul Qadar. Meanwhile, Lailatul Qadar occurs during the last ten days of the month of Ramadan.

Dream - So far, Muslims have known that the Nuzulul Quran is commemorated on the 17th of Ramadan. However, in reality, there are still some people who question that date. This is because the Al-Qadr verse in the Quran explains that the Quran was revealed on the night of Lailatul Qadar. Meanwhile, Lailatul Qadar occurs in the last ten days of Ramadan. So it is understandable if there is still confusion among Muslims regarding the exact date of the Nuzulul Quran commemoration.

To find out the explanation from the scholars, here is as summarized by Dream through various sources.

Opinions of Scholars about the Descent of the Quran

Opinions of Scholars about the Descent of the Quran

Some scholars say that the method of the descent of the Quran in their books is called Kaifiyah al Tanzil. In the book al-Burhan fi'Ulum al-Quran, Imam Badruddin al-Zarkasyi mentions that there are 3 opinions about Kaifiyah al Tanzil:

"First Opinion"

The following is the translation of the given 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "The Quran was revealed in complete verses during the night of Lailatul Qadar to Bait-al-izzah or the heavens of the world from al-Lauh al Mahfudz. Then it was gradually revealed through the intermediary of the angel Jibril, conveyed to Prophet Muhammad for 20 or 23 years. The revelation of the Quran began with the first 5 verses of Surah Al-Alaq."

"Second Opinion"

The following is the translation of the given 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any HTML tags: "The Quran descended gradually to the world on the 20th or 23rd night of Lailatul Qadar for a period of 20 or 23 years. When it was complete in the world, the angel Jibril revealed it gradually to Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, for a period of 20 or 23 years."

"Third Opinion"

The following is the translation of the given 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving the HTML tags: "The Al-Quran was revealed directly to Prophet Muhammad gradually over a period of more than 20 years and began on the night of Lailatul Qadar."

Through the three opinions above, the opinion most held by the majority of scholars is the first opinion. Namely, the Quran was revealed all at once in the world on the night of Lailatul Qadar and was revealed gradually during the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad after he was appointed as a Prophet in Makkah and Madinah until his death.

"The Quran was revealed all at once."

Regarding the descent of the Quran all at once, this became a verse of the Quran as a foundation for arguments by scholars.

Al-Quran Diturunkan secara Sekaligus

The verse is Surah Al-Baqarah verse 185: "The month of Ramadan is the one in which the Quran was revealed as a guidance for mankind." (QS Al-Baqarah: 185) Then, in Surah Al-Qadr verse 1: "Indeed, We sent it (the Quran) down during the Night of Decree." (QS Al-Qadr: 1)

And the verse of Ad-Dukhan 3: "Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night." (QS Ad-Dukhan: 3) Through the three verses above, it indicates the first revelation of the Quran, which was in the month of Ramadan on the night of Lailatul Qadar. In the Surah Ad-Dukhan, it mentions the "blessed night," which refers to the blessed night of Lailatul Qadar in the month of Ramadan.

This is as stated by the majority of scholars of interpretation, such as Imam al-Alusiy in his interpretation book. Then, in the Jalalyn interpretation, it is interpreted about the Ad-Dukhan letter as 'on a blessed night', namely Lailatul Qadar. However, in that interpretation, Lailatul Qadar is mentioned as the middle night of the month of Syaban. It is on that night that the Quran was revealed from the Mother of the Book or the Preserved Tablet, namely the seventh heaven to the earthly heaven.

Al-Quran Diturunkan Berangsur-angsur

"The Quran is revealed gradually"

"The Al-Quran that has been revealed completely from Lauh Mahfudz to the world, then the Al-Quran was gradually revealed over a period of 23 years."

The majority of scholars believe that this happened for 13 years in Mecca and 10 years in Medina. The gradual descent of the Quran is explained in the Quran, Surah Al-Isra verse 106: "And We have sent down the Quran in portions, so that you may recite it to the people gradually, and We have revealed it in stages." (QS Al Isra: 106)

This indicates the difference between the Quran and other heavenly books that were revealed all at once. Such as the Gospel, the Torah, and the Psalms. Allah SWT said in Surah Al-Furqan, verse 32, which means: "Why was the Quran not revealed to him all at once?"; thus, We strengthen your heart with it and We recite it in a measured and proper manner." (QS Al-Furqan: 32)
