Dream - Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Body (Baleg) of the Indonesian Parliament, Achmad Baidowi, proposed that the Special Capital Region of Jakarta (DKJ) become the legislative capital. The man, who is affectionately called Awiek, expressed this opinion during a Working Committee (Panja) meeting with the government regarding the Draft Law (RUU) for DKJ, in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, March 18, 2024.

"We proposed the legislative thing, it was discussed yesterday, because there is no time limit here, let's just make it for the legislation, the legislative in DKJ. So that the specificity of DKJ also increases that it becomes the capital of parliament, or the capital of legislation," said Awiek. "So that's the proposal, right, for certain things. What does it mean? Parliamentary activities can also be in IKN, but the center of activities is in DKJ, we throw that, please let the government respond," he added."

Awiek explained that the DPR does not intend to be reluctant to move to IKN. He requested that DKJ could become a region focused on legislation. "Not leaving the government there, so there are also activities in the parliament there, but the focus, the center is here, in DKJ like that," said Awiek.

In response to the proposal, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) Suhajar Diantoro said that the government wants the entire process of state administration to be located in the IKN. This means that the DPR (Parliament) must inevitably move to the IKN. "Of course, while still respecting our colleagues, allow the government to have a different opinion, in this case, we ask the government not to leave us alone there (IKN), we must be together in the context of a unified state," said Suhajar.
