Dream - A consortium of telecommunications networks from Japan has created a prototype device that supports the world's first 6G network. In a recent test held on April 11th, they showcased the advanced technology of 6G. The device is capable of transmitting data up to 100 gigabytes per second (Gbps) within a range of 100 meters.

Outdoor testing is conducted by separating the 6G devices and 6G transmitters at a distance of approximately 100 meters. On the other hand, indoor testing relies on a reflector tool to ensure good signal reception. As a result, the tested 6G devices in both conditions can achieve internet speeds of up to 100 Gbps. It should be noted that this testing can be considered as not fully reflecting the future commercial use of 6G.

Because, there will be many factors that will affect the speed of the network, such as density in an area, obstacles like walls and rain, and others. In addition, only one device is connected to the 6G network used for testing. In other words, the speed that users will get when 6G is commercially available may not reach 100 Gbps.

Like the 5G network, theoretically, this technology's speed can reach 10-20 Gbps. However, in daily average usage, especially in the United States (US) for mobile users, the average speed of 5G is around 200 Mbps. This means that the speed of 5G enjoyed by consumers is far from the theoretical speed that 5G technology possesses, and it is possible that 6G technology will face the same fate.
