Jessica was released from the Class IIA Women's Prison in Pondok Bambu, East Jakarta. At around 09:36 AM WIB, Jessica was seen exiting the prison gates."

"Although she did not make a statement to the media, Jessica was seen smiling and waving before getting into the officer's car that took her to the East Jakarta District Attorney's Office for the administrative process of her conditional release. Her attorney, Otto Hasibuan, confirmed the news. "That's right, Jessica is on conditional release," he said briefly. The Public Relations Coordinator of the Directorate General of Corrections, Edward, also confirmed that Jessica would complete the administrative process related to her release."

The case of Jessica Wongso has been in the spotlight since her meeting with Wayan Mirna Salihin, her classmate at Billy Blue College of Design, Sydney, Australia. On January 6, 2016, they met at Café Olivier, Grand Indonesia, Central Jakarta, along with another friend. Mirna suddenly experienced convulsions after drinking the Vietnamese iced coffee ordered by Jessica, and passed away shortly thereafter.

The death of Mirna triggered an intensive investigation by the police, who examined several witnesses, including café employees, Mirna's family, and several forensic experts. The autopsy results indicated the presence of cyanide in Mirna's stomach, which was suspected to be the cause of her death. Based on evidence and testimonies, Jessica was named a suspect on January 29, 2016, and was arrested the next day at a hotel in the North Jakarta area.

"On October 27, 2016, the Central Jakarta District Court sentenced Jessica Wongso to 20 years in prison, in accordance with Article 340 of the Criminal Code regarding premeditated murder. Although Jessica attempted to appeal all the way to cassation, all her efforts were denied. The 20-year prison sentence was upheld."
