Tidak Selalu Haram, Inilah Penjelasan Al-Ghazali tentang Musik Bisa Menyalakan Cinta yang Telah Tidur

"Not Always Forbidden, Here is Al-Ghazali's Explanation on How Music Can Ignite the Love that Has Slumbered"

"Dream - The permissibility and prohibition of music up to this day remains a debate, especially among Muslims. This is due to a specific hadith regarding the prohibition of musical instruments which states: "Indeed, there will be a group from my Ummah who will consider lawful unlawful sexual intercourse (zina), silk, khamr (intoxicating drinks), and musical instruments." (HR. Bukhari-Mu'allaq) However, not all Muslims consider music to be haram. In fact, many earn a living through music. Therefore, what is the actual stance on whether playing music is permissible in Islam? Are there certain conditions under which music is allowed?"

Here is the explanation as summarized by Dream through various sources.

Not Always Forbidden, Here is Al-Ghazali's Explanation about Music Can Ignite the Love that Has Slept
Musik Itu Menyalakan Cinta yang Telah Tidur

The translation of "Musik Itu Menyalakan Cinta yang Telah Tidur" to English is "Music Ignites the Love That Has Slept."

"Do all scholars prohibit music? No. One of them is Imam al-Ghazali who once discussed the law of music in a work titled "The Alchemy of Happiness.""

"According to him, the human heart is created by Allah SWT like a flint stone. It contains a hidden fire that is ignited by music and harmony. Thus, it provides excitement for others besides oneself. "These harmonies are the echoes of a higher world of beauty, which we call the world of the spirit. It reminds humans of their connection to that world and evokes emotions that are so deep and foreign within themselves. Thus, they are powerless to explain it themselves," explained al-Ghazali."

"Al-Ghazali says that the influence of music and dance is very profound. It can awaken the love that has been dormant in the heart. A love that is worldly and sensual or one that is divine and spiritual."

to English is:

"However, there are also those who reject the permissibility of music. One of them is the Zhahariah sect, which argues that Allah SWT cannot be compared to humans at all."

Manusia Tidak Bisa Benar-Benar Merasakan Cinta kepada Allah SWT

"They also reject the possibility that humans can truly feel love for Allah SWT. It is said that humans can only love something that belongs to their own species. If someone claims to "truly" feel something they think is love for the Creator, then it is nothing more than mere projection or a shadow created by their imagination, or a reflection of love for fellow beings. According to that sect, music and dance only deal with love for creatures and are therefore forbidden in religion."

The translation of

The translation of "Musik Halal dalam Beberapa Kondisi" to English is "Halal Music in Several Conditions".

"Amid the onslaught of differing opinions on the permissibility of music, there are certain conditions under which music is considered halal."

For example, the songs from people who are performing the Hajj. They celebrate the greatness of the House of Allah in Mecca. This can motivate others to join and carry out the Hajj. In addition, music that stirs the spirit of war in the hearts of its listeners and motivates them to fight against the infidels is also allowed. Furthermore, melancholic music that can evoke feelings of sadness due to having sinned is permissible. Then, joyful music at celebrations, such as weddings and circumcisions, as well as upon returning from a journey, is considered lawful.

The translation of "Unsur-Unsur yang Membuat Musik Menjadi Haram" to English is "Elements That Make Music Forbidden."

"There are several elements that make music haram. What are they?"

The translation of

"1. Contains Deviation"

"Music becomes haram if it contains elements of wrongdoing or immorality. Immorality can come from the lyrics of the song itself that invite one to commit sins. In addition, immorality can also come from the rhythm of the song and the person singing it. Therefore, when the music contains immorality, its ruling is haram."

"2. Contains Slander"

"Music becomes haram if it contains slander. This means that if the music causes a Muslim to fall into sinful behavior and incites slander, then it is haram to listen to it."

"3. Leaving Obligations as a Muslim"

"Music can become haram if it causes the listener to neglect their obligations as a Muslim. Because as a Muslim, one has the obligation to worship every day, namely prayer. Therefore, anything that has the potential to obstruct Muslims from fulfilling their duties should be avoided."
