Dream - The punishment of the grave or the torment of the grave is real. It has even been explained in the Al-Quran and also in several hadiths of the Prophet. Every human being certainly does not want to experience the punishment of the grave in the hereafter. Therefore, humans must prepare the best provisions to be taken to the afterlife. In a hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that most of the torment of the grave is caused by backbiting. The Quran also states that backbiting is a very bad and despicable act. Someone who enjoys backbiting will receive severe punishment in this world and the hereafter.

Apart from backbiting, abandoning prayer is also one of the major sins that can cause torment in the grave. Ibn Qayyim Al-Jauziyah, a great scholar, explained that abandoning prayer is a major sin that will bring the wrath of Allah and will classify a person as one of those who will suffer loss in the hereafter. Therefore, it is very important to stay away from sinful deeds.

The hadith states: "From Abdullah bin Umar, he said: I asked, 'O Messenger of Allah, who among the believers faces the most severe trials?' The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, 'The most severe trials are faced by the prophets, then the righteous.'"

Someone will be tested according to their religion. If their religion is good, then the test will be more difficult. If their religion is bad, then the test will be adjusted according to the badness of their religion. "This Hadith emphasizes that the test in the grave will reflect the quality of a person's faith and deeds during their lifetime. Therefore, Muslims are taught to improve their religion and deeds in order to pass the test in the grave successfully."

First, it is to maintain the five daily prayers. Prayer is the main obligation for Muslims and maintaining it is a form of obedience to Allah. Second, it is to regularly give charity. Giving charity is a form of goodness and can cleanse from sins. Third, it is to regularly read the Qur'an. The Qur'an is a guide for Muslims in living their lives and reading it can provide protection from the torment of the grave. Fourth, it is to increase remembrance of Allah. Remembrance of Allah can calm the heart and maintain a good relationship with Allah.

Muslims are obligated to practice them because they are Allah's command and a part of living the teachings of Islam. By practicing these practices, Muslims can obtain protection from the punishment of the grave and receive blessings in both worldly life and the afterlife.

The following is a reading of prayers to avoid the torment of the grave that can be practiced by Muslims: "Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhabi al-qabr, wa min 'adhabi al-nar, wa min fitnati al-mahya wal-mamat, wa min fitnati al-masih al-dajjal." Translation: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the torment of the grave, the torment of the fire, the trials of life and death, and the trials of the false messiah (Dajjal)."
