Dream - The torment of the grave will be experienced by those who have committed evil deeds during their lifetime. Meanwhile, those who have performed good deeds will surely be protected from the torment of the grave. The severity of the torment of the grave has been explained in the Quran and hadith. This, of course, makes people afraid and do not want to experience it later. So, how can we seek protection from the torment of the grave? Sahabat Dream can perform various acts of worship to be saved from the torment of the grave. These acts of worship are commands from Allah SWT to the Muslim community.
Well, here are some practices to be safe from the torment of the grave as summarized by Dream through various sources.
"The torment of the grave is very painful. However, there are several things that can prevent it, namely as follows:"
Firm faith and steadfast obedience to Allah are the main barriers against the punishment of the grave. By strengthening faith and practicing obedience to Allah in daily life, a person can avoid the punishment of the grave. Daily practices that can be done include increasing remembrance of Allah, performing prayers, giving charity, and doing good deeds to others.
Increasing istighfar (seeking forgiveness) and repentance is a way to cleanse oneself from sins that can be the cause of torment in the grave. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, I seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him more than seventy times a day." (Narrated by Bukhari). Daily practices that can be done are saying istighfar, improving oneself, and repenting for the mistakes made.
"Berzakat, bersedekah, and increasing infak are practices that can erase sins and become barriers to the torment of the grave."
Allah says in the Qur'an: "Take from their wealth a charity by which you purify and cleanse them." (QS. At-Taubah: 103). Daily practices that can be done are giving charity regularly and sincerely.
Praying for those who have passed away is a practice that can protect someone from the torment of the grave. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "When a deceased person is buried, they are in a state where their soul is taken away until their companions leave them, while they can still hear them."
You expect the best for him, or do you expect something else? They answered, "We expect the best for him, O Messenger of Allah." The Prophet's saying: "Pray for his goodness." (Narrated by Muslim). Daily practices that can be done are praying for the deceased, both generally and by mentioning their names.
Apart from performing the deeds commanded by Allah SWT, do not forget to pray to be protected from the torment of the grave. Here is the prayer to recite.
"Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adzabil qabri wa min 'adzabinnaari jahannama wa min fitnatil mahyaa wal mamaati wa min fitnatil masiihid dajjaal. Artinya: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, from the punishment of Hellfire, from the trials of life and death, and from the evil trials of the Dajjal.'"
