The Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) has granted a reduction in detention period to 15,922 prisoners as part of the celebration of Christmas 2023.

Putri Candrawathi, who was involved in the planned murder case against Brigadier Novriansyah Yoshua Hutabarat, who died on July 8, 2022, also received remission along with other prisoners.
Deddy Eduar Eka Saputra, the Coordinator of Public Relations and Protocol at the Directorate General of Corrections, Ministry of Law and Human Rights, revealed that PC will receive Christmas remission in 2023 for one month, while Sambo will not receive Christmas remission due to a life imprisonment sentence. Ricky Rizal, a former aide of Sambo, and Kuat Ma'ruf, a former household assistant, will not receive remission due to their adherence to the Islamic religion.
Thousands of prisoners receive Christmas remission.
Apart from the PC, he also mentioned several other prisoners who received remission with various durations, such as 3,038 people for 15 days, 10,871 prisoners for 1 month, 1,404 prisoners for 1 month 15 days, and 510 prisoners for 2 months.
"To all prisoners who received remission today, especially those who are immediately released. I remind you to demonstrate good behavior in the midst of society," said Eka."
The provision of remission is a form of state participation in giving appreciation and recognition to prisoners who demonstrate integrity, positive behavior, and stay away from legal violations.
The granting of remission is considered as a form of appreciation for prisoners who are considered to have achieved self-understanding, reflected in their behavior and attitude in accordance with prevailing religious and social norms. This principle is in accordance with the provisions stated in the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 22 of 2022 concerning Correctional Services and Government Regulation Number 32 of 1999 regarding the Requirements and Procedures for the Implementation of Prisoner Rights.
