Residents of the Hinterland in Jombang Speak Without Using Javanese, Suspected Descendants of the Majapahit Kingdom

The village in Jombang Regency, East Java, has its own uniqueness. Most of the village residents communicate daily in the Madurese language. However, it is different from the surrounding villages that use Javanese as their primary language.

"This village is located in the interior of Jombang Regency. The journey from the city center passes through winding roads with views of the hills before finally reaching a village that still radiates a cool and natural atmosphere. The majority of this village area is used for residential and agricultural purposes."

"The residents of this village are the only community group that uses the Madurese language in Jombang Regency."

"Although the existence of the Madurese language in this village is still preserved, the potential threat to its sustainability still exists, as reported by balaibahasadiy.kemdikbud.go.id."

Walaupun terdapat banyak kesamaan, nyatanya bahasa yang digunakan oleh penduduk desa ini memiliki perbedaan dengan bahasa Madura asli.<br>

"Although there are many similarities, the language used by the residents of this village actually has differences from the original Madurese language."

to English is:

"Desa Manduro, which is located in the Kabuh District, is the only community group in Jombang Regency that uses the Madurese language. It is said that the origins of this village are closely related to the figure of Arya Wiraraja, a state advisor in the Singasari Kingdom. The residents of Desa Manduro claim that they are descendants of Arya Wiraraja."

According to information from the Disperpusip of East Java, the presence of the Madurese community in Java can be traced back to the time of Laskar Trunojoyo and the important role of Prince Arya Wiraraja, the ancestor of the residents of Manduro Village. The arrival of the Madurese in Manduro is closely related to the history of Prince Arya Wiraraja, who assisted Raden Wijaya in the expansion of territories around Kediri, Jombang, and Mojokerto, as part of the efforts to establish the Majapahit Kingdom. In Manduro Village, ruins of buildings believed by the local residents to be remnants from the era of the Majapahit Kingdom have been discovered.

Statement of the Residents of Manduro Village.

Other sources mention that the residents of Manduro Village are actually descendants of the original Madurese people who were brought by the Dutch colonialists in 1876 to work in the plantation sector. They generally remain loyal to their work as plantation farmers, and this tendency still persists to this day.
