Saking Langkanya dan Terancam Punah, Binatang yang Hilang 87 Tahun Ini Kembali Ditemukan

"Due to its Rarity and Threat of Extinction, the Animal That Disappeared 87 Years Ago Has Been Found Again"

Scientists have made a significant attention to the discovery of a rare blind burrowing mammal that has not been seen for almost a century.

"Over the course of two years, researchers conducted a search in the sand dunes of South Africa for a blind mole rat that is endangered, which navigates tunnels using its acute hearing and sensitivity to vibrations, the research team stated in a press release this week."

The last sighting of the De Winton golden mouse was 87 years ago at Port Nolloth beach, a one-mile sandy coastline on the northwest coast of South Africa.

Due to Its Rarity and Threat of Extinction, the Animal Missing for 87 Years Has Been Found Again

"Their survival is threatened by diamond mining in the beach sand of their habitat, according to the IUCN Red List."

The team of scientists from the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) and the University of Pretoria who rediscovered the sand rat hope their findings will help transform the Port Nolloth coast into a protected area.

"The search for De Winton's golden fly is not easy in any way,"  "They did not leave any sand dunes unexamined and it is now possible to protect the areas where this threatened and rare fly lives.""
"Christina Biggs, a manager for the campaign that helped find the De Winton fly, said in her release."

Scientists search up to 11 miles of sand dune habitat every day to find the gopher mice, said Esther Matthew, a senior field officer with EWT, in the release. The "gold" part of the gopher mouse's name comes from the shiny appearance of its fur coat, which emits oil to help the gopher mouse almost "swim" through the sand.

The translation of "Bagian dari Kampanye" to English is "Part of the Campaign".

"The rediscovery of this rat is part of a campaign to search for lost species launched in 2017 by the nature charity Global Wildlife Conservation, which has now been renamed Re:Wild."

The translation of "Menang Guinness World Record" to English is "Win Guinness World Record".

"This project won the Guinness World Record in 2020 for the number of species it searched for: Over 2000 species of animals, plants, and fungi that had not been seen for at least 10 years."
