The Headmaster of UPT SD Negeri 331 Gresik, Safiyanah, revealed that this problem is not something new. Every year, the school always receives a very small number of new students. In the previous academic year, the school only had less than five new students.

According to him, the remote location becomes the main factor for the low number of new students. Moreover, this school is located in a hamlet that is only inhabited by 22 families. "In Sangkapura sub-district, we have the fewest number of students. There are a total of 17 students with 10 teachers in SDN 331 Gresik," he said.

"Although the number of new students is very small, Safiyanah emphasizes that SDN 331 Gresik remains committed to providing proper education for children in the area. "We used to have new students up to 60 people, at that time the birth rate was still very high and there was no family planning program. As time went by, the family planning program has been implemented and the birth rate has adjusted to the ideal standard," said Safiyanah."

Before there was SDN 331 Gresik, the residents initially attended SDN 1 Daun. To reach SDN 1 Daun, the residents of Dusun Poloasem had to travel uphill. Due to the distance being too far, the level of education at that time was still relatively low. Eventually, SDN 331 was built to improve the level of education.

"Due to the continuously decreasing number of students, a number of school facilities have started to deteriorate as they are rarely used. Many old windows are difficult to lock and the roofs are damaged. This has caused the school to become a bat's nest. "As for the facilities, the roof here is already damaged, the windows are old and difficult to lock, so it is inhabited by bats. The smell is quite disturbing for teaching and learning activities, so students are forced to study outside the school," said Safiyanah."
