Dream - Halima Hadi Alfina (18) became one of the youngest hajj pilgrims in the 1445 Hijri/2024 hajj season. This girl from Semarang, Central Java, was able to go on hajj using the savings she had since kindergarten. The story began when Jumiyati, Alfina's mother, registered her family to go on hajj in 2009. At that time, Alfina was about three years old.
Since kindergarten, Alfina has been participating in a dance studio. Alfina's skill in traditional dance has led to her being invited to various events and receiving honors. From there, Jumiyati taught Alfina to save money for Hajj. "Since early childhood education, I have been participating in a dance studio. I entrusted my dance fees to my mother for my Hajj savings," said Alfina, on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.
At that time, Alfina did not understand the meaning of going on a pilgrimage. She only entrusted the honor money she received to her mother to be saved.
Alfina only learned the meaning of going on a pilgrimage when she was a teenager. Since then, Alfina has been more diligent in saving money to pay for the pilgrimage expenses. The way Alfina earns money is quite unique. She does not set aside the pocket money given by her parents. Instead, she participates in various dance competitions, quizzes, and entrepreneurship events to win cash prizes.
The number of competitions won has saved enough money to pay for the pilgrimage expenses.
Until finally, Alfina was registered as a hajj pilgrim in 2020. However, Alfina and her family's journey was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Only in this year, 2024, Alfina, together with her parents and 2 older siblings, can go on a pilgrimage. Although she has been able to pay off the pilgrimage expenses since 2020, Alfina still diligently saves money to fulfill her needs while in the Holy Land.
The following is the translation of the 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any HTML tags: "The money from her savings is used to buy various necessities for the pilgrimage. Alfina also utilizes her savings to provide desired items during her stay in Madinah."
For example, buying a gamis dress that is worn in Saudi Arabia. Alfina bought a green gamis dress for SAR100 riyals or around Rp430 thousand. Not only that, she also bought souvenirs to be shared with her friends later.
Jumiyati, the mother of Alfina, admits to teaching her child to save money since she was young. Even during school, Alfina was not given pocket money like other children. Every day, she brought lunch for Alfina to eat at school. She also fulfilled all of her children's needs. This is what made Alfina disciplined in saving money. Every honor or prize money was set aside for savings, charity, and treats.
"Parenting"
This parenting style is not complained about by Alfina. In fact, she doesn't feel left behind by her friends. "If she asks for the latest phone, for example, I explain to her that she doesn't need it yet, because her only need is for learning," said Jumiyati.
