Dream - The month of Syaban is between Rajab and the noble Ramadan. The month of Syaban is an opportunity for every Muslim to prepare themselves for the awaited Ramadan. There is a special night in the month of Syaban, which falls in the middle of the month and is known as the Night of Nisfu Syaban. That night is one of the most auspicious times for prayer. That is why Muslims are encouraged to increase their remembrance of Allah, supplications, and good deeds on Nisfu Syaban.

Apart from remembrance, prayer, and salah, there is another practice that is equally important, namely fasting on Nisfu Syaban. So what is the ruling on fasting on Nisfu Syaban and what are its virtues for Muslims? Read the explanation below!

"Law of Fasting Nisfu Syaban"

According to the explanation of Ustad Abdul Somad, the law of fasting on Nisfu Syaban is a sunnah. He explains that for Muslims who are able to observe it, he recommends fasting as a sunnah. However, for those who are unable to do so, it is not a problem to leave it.

In order to maintain the spirit of fasting during Nisfu Syaban, instill within yourself the belief that worshiping Allah should be done as if tomorrow your life will be taken away. As UAS said, "consider this month of Syaban as your last, so strive your best. After this, you will die, so let us be enthusiastic in doing good deeds," he said.

"Narrated by Usamah bin Zaid may Allah be pleased with him: I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I have never seen you fast for an entire month except for the month of Sha'ban.' He replied, 'Sha'ban is a month that people often neglect between Rajab and Ramadan. In Sha'ban, the deeds are presented to the Lord of all the worlds, and I like my deeds to be presented while I am fasting.'" (Narrated by Nasai, Abu Dawud, Ibn Khuzaimah. Sahih)

"When is the fast of Nisfu Syaban?"

According to the hijri calendar published by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, the night of Nisfu Syaban falls on Friday, February 24, 2024. Therefore, the fasting schedule for Nisfu Syaban will be observed on Saturday, February 25, 2024, coinciding with the 15th of Syaban, 1445 H.

"The Virtues of Fasting on the 15th of Sha'ban"

Among the virtues of fasting in the month of Syaban is to attain the intercession of the Prophet Muhammad SAW on the Day of Judgment. As explained by Sheikh Nawawi Al-Bantani, it means: "The twelfth voluntary fast is the fast of Syaban, because of the love of the Prophet Muhammad SAW towards it. Therefore, whoever observes it will receive his intercession on the Day of Judgment." Wallahu a'lam.

"Reading Intention for Fasting on the Fifteenth of Sha'ban"

"So extraordinary is the virtue of fasting on Nisfu Syaban, therefore it is advisable for us to take advantage of this moment to fast if we are able. Like other acts of worship, fasting on Nisfu Syaban also begins with reciting the intention."

The following is the reading of the intention to fast Nisfu Syaban:
نَوَيْتُ الصَّوْمَ فِي النَّصِفِ الشَّعْبَانِ سُنَّةَ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى I intend to fast on the night of the middle of Sha'ban as a Sunnah of Allah the Exalted.

Nawaitush-shauma fin nishfisy-sya'bana sunnatan lillahi ta'ala means: "I intend to fast the Sunnah of Nisfu Syaban for the sake of Allah Ta'ala."
