Dream - A child will definitely make every effort for the happiness of his parents. Similarly, the effort of Prophet Ibrahim to save his father who remained in his polytheism. In the Quran, specifically in Surah Maryam verse 47, the father of the prophets, Prophet Ibrahim, prayed for his polytheistic father to be willing to believe in Allah SWT.
Nabi Ibrahim wants to guide his father to the right path, which is to believe in the One Almighty God. However, despite all the efforts made by the chosen human being, the father of Nabi Ibrahim remains steadfast in his belief in idols.
The following is the translation of the given 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "The following is the prayer of Prophet Ibrahim to his polytheistic father mentioned in the Quran: 'And [mention] when Ibrahim said to his father, 'O my father, why do you worship that which does not hear and does not see and will not benefit you at all? O my father, indeed there has come to me of knowledge that which has not come to you, so follow me; I will guide you to a straight path.'"
He said, "Peace be upon you. I will seek forgiveness for you from my Lord. Indeed, He is ever gracious to me." (QS. Maryam: 47)
The prayer is continued by reading the following verse: "And I will turn away from you and from what you worship other than Allah, and I will invoke my Lord. I hope that I will not be disappointed in invoking my Lord." (QS. Maryam: 48)
In this prayer, Prophet Ibrahim tried to convince his father to abandon the worship of idols and follow the faith in Allah, the One and Only. He also conveyed that idols do not have the ability to hear, see, or provide any benefit, while Allah possesses absolute knowledge and power.
Although his father did not accept the invitation and continued to hold onto his beliefs, Prophet Ibrahim fulfilled his duty to provide advice and invite [him] to the right path.
Apart from in Surah Maryam, there is also a reading of Prophet Ibrahim's prayer for his polytheistic father taken from Surah As-Syu'ara verse 86. This prayer was recited by Prophet Ibrahim for the well-being and safety of his father, Azar, who remained a polytheist. Prophet Ibrahim prayed: "Waghfir li abiii innahuu kaana mind daalliin" which means "and forgive my father, indeed he was among those who went astray." (QS Asy-Syu'ara' Ayat 86)
In Surah At-Taubah verse 114, it is explained the reason why Prophet Ibrahim prayed for his polytheistic father. "And the request for forgiveness by Ibrahim (to Allah) for his father was only because of a promise he had made to him. But when it became clear to Ibrahim that his father was an enemy to Allah, he disassociated himself from him. Indeed, Ibrahim was soft-hearted and forbearing." (Quran, At-Taubah: 114)
