The human-made cave that is about 2,000 years old was accidentally discovered by a farmer in 1992. It is located near the village of Shiyan Beicun on the Qu River, Zhejiang Province, in eastern China.

"Apparently, the cave contains many historical artifacts from the reign of King Xuan during the Han Dynasty, who lived between 91-48 BC. This means that the cave has been around for more than 2,000 years."

According to the theory proposed by Yang Hongzun, a researcher from the Archaeology Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 2014, the cave was allegedly built on the orders of King Goujian in 494 BC.

According to Chinese media, Hongxun believes that Goujian utilized the cave as a hiding place for thousands of his troops who suffered defeat on the battlefield.
