Dream – A plane owned by Japan Airlines caught fire while on the runway at Haneda Airport, Tokyo, Japan, on Tuesday, January 2, 2023.
According to Nippon TV, as quoted by Reuters, the plane is suspected to have collided with a Coast Guard aircraft. Footage aired by NHK shows fire coming out of the window of the plane as it was speeding above the runway.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the airport, a raging fire can also be seen. The fire is located at the starting point of the Japan Air Lines aircraft landing. As quoted by Channel News Asia, a spokesperson for Japan Airlines stated that the burning aircraft was carrying more than 300 passengers.
The aircraft is said to have flown from New Chitose Sapporo Airport to Haneda Airport. In Flightradar24, it can be seen that the aircraft landed at 5.47 pm local time.
Meanwhile, the Japanese Coast Guard stated that they are currently investigating whether their aircraft did indeed collide with Japan Airlines.
Until now, the fate of the passengers on the plane is still unknown. Firefighters have been deployed to handle the situation.
