Viral Penemuan Bejana Kuno Berusia Ribuan Tahun. Ternyata Granat di Masa Perang Salib

Viral Discovery of Ancient Vessels Thousands of Years Old. Apparently Grenades during the Crusades

A container made of ceramic material dating from around the 11th to 12th century AD was found in Jerusalem. However, this container has certain uniqueness.

Based on the latest research, it is estimated that this elongated container is a hand grenade, supported by the results of residue analysis found inside it.

The group conducted an analysis on four fragments of ceramics. One of these fragments contains a substance that appears to be explosive material. These four ceramic fragments were found in the Armenian Garden, located in the Old City of Jerusalem, during the period of 1961-1967. These ceramic fragments are currently stored at the Royal Ontario Museum, Canada. Source: Arkeonews

The following is the translation of the given 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "Containers made of ceramic material that are round and cone-shaped, originating from the period of the 9th to the 15th century, are often found in the Middle East region. However, the use of these containers often becomes a subject of debate."

Based on speculation, it was found that these containers are used for various purposes, including as beer containers, mercury storage, oil, and medicines. Recent research conducted by a team from Griffith University in Queensland, Australia, verifies that three of these containers contain oil and medicines, in accordance with the previous hypothesis.

"Local Homemade Explosive Material"

The ceramic fragments numbered 737 are considered the most significant fragments. These fragments contain a mixture of materials that are likely used as explosives. Suspicions indicate that these explosives are locally produced and not imported from China, which is known for its gunpowder since the 9th century.

"Explosive Material"

Fragment 737 contains residues of sulfur, mercury, magnesium, and nitrate. It is believed that magnesium is obtained from the Dead Sea, where the substance is extracted during that period.

"This study demonstrates the various uses of these unique ceramic vessels, including ancient explosives."

Carney Matheson, molecular archaeologist from Griffith University, Australia.

"Crusade Weapon"

Carney Matheson stated that these containers were used as grenades during the Crusades. The grenades were thrown at Crusader fortresses and produced very loud explosions and bright flashes of light. The fourth container that was found is believed to have been used to store lamp fuel or possibly as an oil storage, as traces of fatty acids were found inside (which were used in early thermal weapons at that time).

Matheson also revealed that his team's research indicated that some containers were sealed using resin. "Further research on these containers and the content of their explosive materials will help us understand ancient explosive technology in the Middle Ages, and the history of explosive weapons in the Eastern Mediterranean," he said. The results of this research have been published in the journal PLOS One.
