The Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage Research (NIKU) examines the stone surface and confirms what is suggested by the Fjeld application. The images were not randomly formed by natural pigments such as iron deposits, but they appear to have been intentionally placed there by people from ancient times. The archaeology team then examines the paintings on the stone and confirms that they are ancient paintings.

The Government urges the public not to touch the stone because it has a rare value and is easily fragile. Concerned that the painting may be lost or erased, the government chooses not to provide information about the exact location of the stone that contains this ancient painting. Jone Kile-Vesik also conveyed that touching can result in the loss of pigments on the painting.
