Dream - The 6.8 magnitude earthquake in Morocco on Friday, September 8, killed nearly 3,000 people. However, there is one village in Morocco where almost all of its residents survived the earthquake because of a wedding celebration.
In the village of Kettou, moments of happiness should have turned into sorrow. However, this extraordinary story proves that in the deepest moments of darkness, the light of solidarity and hope can still shine brightly. The earthquake destroyed the houses of the village residents, who were celebrating the wedding of Habiba Ajdir, 22 years old, with an apple farmer, Mohammed Boudad, 30 years old.
This wedding was supposed to take place in the village on Saturday, however, according to tradition, the bride's family held a pre-wedding party the night before. A video recorded by a wedding guest shows the tragic moment when an earthquake suddenly struck.
At that time, the musicians wearing traditional clothes were playing the flute and goat-skin drums in the outdoor courtyard. However, the cheerful atmosphere turned into chaos and darkness when the earthquake suddenly shook the village.
"Boudad and Ajdir, who were still wearing wedding clothes, survived the earthquake. However, that traumatic experience has left them confused and scared."
Boudad, who spoke while holding his wife's hand, expressed his feelings, "We want to celebrate it. Then the earthquake happened. I don't know if I should worry about my village." Ajdir was deeply affected by the earthquake to the point of being reluctant to speak to strangers. Although their marriage was almost ruined by this natural disaster, Boudad only commented that they were "brought together by fate."
They both are one of the few surviving couples in the village of Ighil Ntalghoumt. Ighil Ntalghoumt is a poor village, and the earthquake that struck has turned it into a devastated ruin.
Many of its residents are now losing their homes. However, the good news is that there have been no reported casualties or serious injuries in this village, unlike other areas closer to the epicenter. This earthquake is the deadliest in Morocco since 1960, which resulted in more than 2,900 deaths, mostly in remote settlements in the High Atlas mountains south of Marrakesh.
"Despite the panic during the marriage of Habiba Ajdir and Mohammed Boudad, only one eight-year-old child, Ahmed Ait Ali Oubella, was injured when a falling rock hit his head. He was immediately taken to safety by his father."
Although this natural disaster has destroyed most of the wedding preparations, Boudad, his brother, and his wife continue their journey to Kettou on Saturday. They arrived in the village with full concerns and when they saw the damage that had struck the village, they realized how lucky they still were to be alive.
Solidarity and togetherness are the key to survival in the midst of this disaster. Many villagers from around Ighil Ntalghoumt came to celebrate the wedding of Habiba Ajdir and dine together on beef tagine soup.
The following is the translation of the 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "The wedding party also saved them from being trapped in their homes, which became ruins due to the earthquake. Although their fate is still very uncertain, the residents of Ighil Ntalghoumt village remain united in facing this challenge. They need immediate assistance, especially considering the colder and wetter weather that is expected to come. However, the spirit and strength of their community remain strong, and they are fighting together to rise from the rubble of the natural disaster that hit their village."
