Dream - For Muslims, the letter Al-Falaq is certainly not unfamiliar. This letter, which is included in the juz amma, is read by many Muslims, especially when performing prayers. In addition to memorizing its recitation, it would be better if Dream's friends also know the meaning behind the letter. One of them is in the third verse which means: "and from the evil of darkness when it settles." (QS Al-Falaq: 3) Through the above verse, what is meant by the evil of its creatures?

That is mentioned in Surah Al-Falaq verse 2 as follows: <مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ> Meaning: "from the evil of what He created." (QS. Al-Falaq: 2) Then, it is also mentioned in verse 3 as follows: <وَمِنْ شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَ> Meaning: "and from the evil of darkness when it settles." (QS. Al-Falaq: 3)

Through the above verse, the mujahid said that what is meant is when the sun has set, as narrated by Imam Bukhari from Mujahid. Additionally, it is said by Az-Zuhri, meaning the sun when it has set. This is as narrated from Atiyyah and Qatadah, meaning the night when it has gone. Then, Abu Mihzan said from Abu Hurairah, the intended meaning is the stars.

Ibnu Zaid explained, in ancient times the Arabs referred to al-gasiq as the falling of the star Surayya. After Surayya, diseases and plagues came. The disease will disappear when Surayya rises. The meaning of falling is sinking. This was also said by Prophet Muhammad, that what is meant is the star when it has sunk.

It is mentioned that Abu Daud Al-Hafri has narrated to us, from Ibnu Abu Zib, from Al-Haris Ibnu Abu Salamah, saying that Siti Aisyah ra has said that the Prophet saw held her hand. Then he showed her the moon when it rose. The Prophet saw said, "Seek protection from Allah from the evil of this moon when it sets."

Then, Imam Turmudzi and Imam Nasai have narrated in the book of interpretation from their respective Sunan books through the hadith of Muhammad ibn Abdur Rahman ibn Abu Zib, from his uncle with the same wording, and Imam Turmudzi said, the status of this hadith is hasan. The wording is as follows: "Seek refuge in Allah from the evil of this (moon) when it sets."

According to Ibn Kathir, those who say that the moon is a sign of nighttime when it appears, this is not contrary to our opinion. The reason is that the presence of the moon indicates nighttime and it only appears at night. The same goes for the presence of stars that can be seen shining at night. Wallahua'lam bissawab.
