Accompanied by his wife, Siti Atikoh, Ganjar reminisced and nostalgically visited the boarding house and office where he first ventured to Jakarta after graduating from Gadjah Mada University (UGM). Like other migrants, Ganjar began his dreams and career through a difficult process. He lived in a cramped boarding house in the heart of the Capital.

Ganjar and Atikoh were warmly welcomed by the owner of the boarding house and the local residents. For the local residents, Ganjar is like their own family. Wearing a dark sports t-shirt, Ganjar walked through the alley in the Petojo Sabangan area, Gambir District, Central Jakarta, on Saturday, January 6, 2024. The local residents welcomed Ganjar as if he were a child returning from afar. How could they not? All the residents still recognized and were close to him.

"Similarly, Ganjar still remembers the names of the residents living around his boarding house one by one. For example, Mrs. Rosali, the owner of the boarding house who is usually called Bu Ros and Engkar. That woman often helped wash Ganjar's clothes in the past. "This is Mrs. Ros who owns the boarding house and this is Engkar, who helps me wash clothes," said Ganjar."

The former Governor of Central Java for two terms also saw the boarding house that has changed a lot. In the past, the boarding rooms had plywood walls like shanties, but now they have walls. "Back then, the divider was plywood. The size was 2x5 square meters, so if you stretched your legs, it was all used up. One month was Rp 50 thousand," he said.

"This alley used to be lively during the events of '98," he explained. After reminiscing with the residents around his boarding house, Ganjar then walked to where his old office used to be. However, it has now transformed into a modern store."
