Dream - GrabAds, an advertising platform from Grab, revealed that 56 percent of Grab app users in Indonesia plan to travel abroad. This data was obtained from their survey in SEA Travel Insights 2023.

"The report reveals that people's interest in traveling is still high," wrote GrabAds. Based on the survey results, 72 percent of Grab users in Southeast Asia plan to travel abroad at least once in the next 12 months. In Indonesia, 56 percent of users want to travel abroad, with 81 percent of them planning to take at least two trips in the coming year."

"Favorite Destination"

Increase in interest to travel abroad, according to GrabAds, opens up more opportunities for travel and tourism companies to reach the next generation of travelers. The report also highlights three foreign destinations that are most attractive to Indonesian people, namely Saudi Arabia, Japan, and South Korea. In addition, Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia are the three most popular countries in Southeast Asia.

The report presents a number of information about travel preferences, habits, and behaviors of consumers throughout the Southeast Asian region, which can help businesses to improve their advertising and promotional activities.

Holiday Priority with Family

People prefer to travel with family in 2023. Around 86 percent of users in Southeast Asia plan at least one trip with family or a group. In Indonesia, 71 percent of respondents in the Grab application prefer to travel with family, 42 percent with a partner, and 25 percent plan to travel with friends.

Business travelers are an integral part of this survey. Around 40 percent of Southeast Asians plan to undertake an average of 4 business trips in the next 12 months. For them, proximity to public transportation and restaurants (57 percent) as well as a safe environment (46 percent) are priorities when booking a room.

Travelers Want to Avoid Uncertainty

After two years affected by the pandemic, travelers tend to plan their trips carefully. This report shows that 64 percent of respondents in Southeast Asia started planning their travel itinerary at least one month in advance for long-distance trips (6 to 16 hours).

Opportunity to Create Loyalty Program

Quoted from the 2023 customer intelligence report, 9 out of 10 Southeast Asian consumers prefer to shop if the brand offers a loyalty program.

One of the hyperlocal approaches carried out by GrabAds. GrabAds data shows a significant increase of up to 84 percent in international travel interest compared to the previous year.
